Approach to home school studies

By admin On July 31, 2010 No Comments

It's imperative for parents to decide at what age their kids will be ready for education. Starting to home school kids too early could cause developmental problems. The main focus should be on training kids to improve their morale and behavior. More of reading to children should be done during their early years. Self-discipline and good morale are two essential qualities, which will lay a good foundation for children. Academic teaching in the later years will be productive for children. The learning methodology and home school studies differs for kids at various levels. Children below the age of ten are in foundation level where they need training on self-discipline and building their vocabulary.

Children start developing their reasoning skills when they cross twelve. Thus different methods of home schooling apply to different age levels, which can be tailor made to meet the abilities of each kid. Parents who home school their kids cannot force them to get adapted to a program, rather the program must be tailor made so that it can be adapted by the child. The Charlotte Mason method, unit study approach and classical approach are traditional forms of home schooling. The Charlotte Mason method is considered as the habitual method where the child is trained on to develop good qualities such as self-discipline, co-operation, concentration, honesty and so on.

Parents who home school their children should provide their kids with a rich environment with lot of useful resources. Making suggestions and answering the questions put forth by their kids would help them in logical reasoning. In the unit study approach, various subjects on arts, science, history, language and mathematics are combined together around a common idea. Parents can either use books which deal with unit study approach or construct their own curriculum based on the child's interest in a particular area of study. Children should be encouraged to pursue their interest and the right amount of freedom should be given in order to make you kids excel in academics.

The education given to your kid at a home school should be balanced. Extremity in any aspect would not be productive for a kid's growth from academic perspective. Being too strict or providing a military academic classroom setting or being too lenient will not be useful for your kid's career. The very purpose of home schooling will be unsuccessful. home schooling is like an art and mastering it takes time to understand the concept and analyzing your kid's capabilities as well as interests. Any approach to home school studies would be successful when done the right way. Hands on materials, projects and educational trips would give an opportunity for kids to learn from what they experience rather than being fully focused on textbooks with just factual information. Practical method of learning when combined with theory based lessons would make sense to the kids and they will have a better understanding.

There are numerous benefits of Home school studies and choosing the proper home school curriculum for your child. For more information about Home School and Curriculums, please do visit our site - http://www.homeschoolcurriculum.org/

New Scholarships For Working Moms Who Want To Go Back To School

By admin On July 31, 2010 No Comments

Working moms usually have a pretty consistent routine. You go to work, you come home and do more work and take care of your family's needs. However, you should take a moment to think about what the future holds for you and your family. Scholarships for working moms offer an opportunity to make your future brighter.

Why do most moms hesitate about going back to complete their college degree? Working moms lead a very busy life at a very fast pace. However, that does not prevent you from realizing that the world keeps turning and the future is on you before you realize it. You must sometimes think about what things will be like in your life in five, ten, or twenty years from now. Do you know where you will be?

If you are in a nowhere kind of job, you can pretty accurately assume that it will stay that way. However, with a college degree, in a few short years, you can be assured that you will have improved your lot in life. You can map out your path, and look forward to arriving at your destination of a better paying, fulfilling career.

Many times, time and money are what prevent moms from going back to school. You can get financial aid funding through grants and scholarships, especially now that President Obama has increased the federal funding for education. The problem of time is really a realization that you can invest a little of your scarce, precious time right now and reap benefits in a few years, even while continuing in your present employment.

There are a few ways to help deal with the time constraints facing a working mom returning to school:

1. Online courses: You can take courses online, or you can actually take whole degrees online in certain subjects. This saves quite a lot of time in daily commutes to school, and allows you more time at home. You can do your classroom work while still being there to supervise your children, making child care unnecessary. The new governmental grants for Moms apply to online courses, too.

2. Be diligent and disciplined. When you manage to get some extra time for study, use it in the best way you can. Do not allow yourself to be distracted at all from your allotted tasks. You will develop better concentration and study habits as you.

3. Think about your future goals. Keep yourself focused on what you are trying to accomplish. Remember that the fatigue and workload are just temporary, and you will be so much better off after you complete your education.

You need to take the courage to make that first move; step out and begin your journey to your new life by beginning to apply for grants and scholarships for working moms. Then you will be on your way to a bright tomorrow and a job of your dreams.

I know how hard it is to go back to school so I did some research for you.

Did you know you can get a $10,000 scholarship for Moms just for registering? Apply right now for free: Scholarships for Moms

A Horse Of Their Own – The Pony Of The Americas – For Young Riders Only

By admin On July 31, 2010 No Comments

The Pony of the Americas, more commonly referred to as the POA, is a popular and growing breed that was designed as a mount especially for young riders who were too big for a small pony but not ready for a full-sized horse. The small size of the POA makes it easy for parents to match a child to the proper pony. The Pony of the Americas is a distinctive pony breed that looks more like a small horse and possessing the attractive coloration of the Appaloosa. Their quiet disposition and gentle nature make them highly competitive in all equine disciplines. It is a rugged, athletic pony with the speed for games and jumping; strength for driving small carts; and the intelligence and patience for showmanship and equitation.

Les Boomhower, of Mason City, Iowa, was a Shetland pony breeder and an attorney with his own practice and in 1954 one of his neighbors offered him an Arabian/Appaloosa mare who had been bred to a Shetland stallion that was due to foal in the spring. Les waited until the foal was born before he bought the mare. The resulting colt born was white with what looked like black paint smears all over his little body. What intrigued the lawyer the most were the spots on the colt's flank that formed a definite black hand, which was the basis for the colt's name, Black Hand.

Mr. Boomhower had an idea to provide a pony breed between 44" and 52" tall that would be good for children to ride and show and that had the beautiful head of an Arab; a body muscled for speed like the Quarter Horse; and coloring distinguishable as an Appaloosa from a distance of 40 feet along with good stamina. He invited his Shetland breeder friends to his Memory Lane Ranch to discuss the idea and that was when the Pony of the Americas Club (POAC) was born. Mr. Boomhower's expertise in the law set up a solid foundation for the new breed registry of this distinguished pony's off-spring. As the foundation stallion for the Pony of the Americas breed, his colt was given the first registration number and is now known as Black Hand #1.

Among the breeds influencing the original POA were the Arab, Thoroughbred, Quarter Horse, Appaloosa, Welsh Pony, and Shetland Pony. In1963, the height limit of the breed increased to between 46 inches and 54 inches and the Shetland started being phased out of the POA breeding program. Larger ponies such as the Welsh and small horses such as the wild Mustang and the Arabian were combined with Indian ponies, Quarter Horses and Appaloosas to achieve a "little horse" look rather than the pony look of the Shetland. In 1986 the upper height limit of the breed was again increased, this time to 56". Today, the Pony of the Americas is created by crossing registered POAS; by crossing a registered POA with a registered horse or pony of an approved breed (see POAC for list); or, by crossing a registered POA with a grade horse or pony that has been identified with the POAC as being acceptable for breeding purposes. By 1996, the POAC had over 45,000 registered ponies.

The Pony of the Americas Club, Inc is now an international organization that it is the only equine breed organization devoted to youth riders. From the original Club came more than 40 POA state clubs and chapters throughout the United States and Canada that offer, state shows, regional shows and sales, a world class international show and sale and a world championship show in addition to Play Days and other events year round. The age limit of a child showing a POA changed from age 16 in 1954 to age 18 in 1973 and in 1987, age19 and over riding classes were added with a limitation that the POA under saddle is to be only 2, 3, and 4 year olds in training. Since the shows are designed around youths, adults are limited to showing the animals only in halter or pleasure driving classes. However, this makes the breed a pony for the whole family.

The Pony of the Americas should show style and substance, beauty and symmetry, being a balanced individual regardless of size and correct in all aspects of conformation, exhibiting approved color patterns and characteristics. At maturity, the POA is between 12 and 15 hands inches in height at the withers and typically weighs 750 to 950 pounds.

In addition to the refined head with dished, Arab-like nose showing mottled skin about the nostrils and lips, the Pony of the Americas has expressive eyes and fine ears. The chest is deep and broad, the back is short and the shoulders are sloping. The quarters are substantial, and the legs should have ample bone. The POA is a strong, fast, and durable pony capable of performing a wide variety of tasks.

The POA is most commonly recognized by their variety of colorful coat patterns that are similar to Appaloosas, from blankets to leopard spots; mostly white over their loins and hips with dark, egg-shaped spots, although the spots may vary in size from specks to spots four inches in diameter. Spots may be dark in the middle with a lighter ring surrounding it, called a halo. White over the hips without dark spots is known as snow-capped. Ponies that have white hairs mixed in with the base coat color are said to be roan. Ponies with Paint, pinto or albino parentage or markings cannot be registered.

The POA also has other distinctive characteristics such as mottled skin; white sclera around the eyes; and vertical black-and-white striped hooves in the absence of white leg markings. It is possible a POA will not have any striping on its hooves, so for this reason, the other characteristics of mottled skin and white sclera are the primary ones to look for in identifying the POA. The mottled or parti-colored skin is a unique trait found in the Appaloosa and POA and therefore it is a basic decisive indicator of a POA and it should show good contrast between the dark and light areas. All horses and ponies can show white around the eye if it is rolled back, up and down, or if the eyelid is lifted. The POA sclera is white and usually readily visible when the eye is in a normal, relaxed position.

POA has 4 gaits. The walk is straight with a long, easy stride that is true and flat footed. The Western Jog Trot is soft, relaxed, and quiet with a definite two beat gait. The English Trot is a free-moving stride, executed in a long, low frame with no excessive knee or hock action. The Lope or Canter is rolling and comfortable with a natural three beat pattern.

Since Appaloosa and Quarter Horse have been used in the development of the POA, Hyperkalemic Periodic Paralysis (HYPP) is a possible genetic defect that could occur. HYPP is inherited as a dominant trait and is characterized by intermittent seizures of uncontrolled muscle tremors (shaking, trembling or twitching) or profound muscle weakness, and in severe cases, may lead to collapse and/or death. To date, HYPP has been traced only to descendants of a Quarter horse named IMPRESSIVE, #0767246. Additionally, with the POA having Appaloosa in their ancestry, it is important to be aware that Appaloosas have a highest risk of any breed of developing spontaneous Equine Recurrent Uveitis (ERU) or "moon blindness", which can lead to blindness if not treated.

The POA is easy to train, senses what is required and readily obeys the demands of its handler and shows good manners in the ability to stand quietly, and back readily. Kids and POAs develop special bonds and these gentle child-size equines can give a child the confidence and the responsibility that will serve them well later on in life. Children cheer for each other even though they are competing against each other. . The gentle disposition, durability and intelligence of the Pony of the Americas serve it well.

How to be a Supportive Parent

By admin On July 31, 2010 No Comments

There are different levels of support that a parent can provide, depending on the age and maturity levels of their child. When a child is very young, the supportive parent can do relatively simple things such as posting a drawing on the refrigerator after giving the child rave reviews on their creation.

The supportive parent must give the child their undivided attention when the child has something to say. How many times do you see a mother or father completely ignore a small child who calls their name out over and over again, as if they don't hear them. Do you find yourself thinking, "Answer your child!" Obviously its important to teach your child that they are not to interrupt while the parent is in the middle of another conversation, but even then, the parent should lean to the child and whisper, "Wait until mommy is finished with this conversation," rather than just ignoring the child. Not only is that teaching your child to be courteous, but it is also being supportive. You are acknowledging your child's needs, but asking them to wait their turn.

Supporting Teenagers

As the child gets older and more mature, their need for support changes. A teenager's need for emotional support is more complex than before. They have a need to be heard and to be respected by their parents.

Too many children do not treat their parents with respect, and when you ask them why they disrespect their parent, they will respond that their parents don't give them respect so why should they give respect to their parent? That's a good point, actually. Most parents do not consider their teenagers as children, and they do not consider them adults either. Somewhere along the way, the teenager is dismissed and the parent forgets that the teenager has needs too. The teen is left to fend for themselves and sometimes make self-destructive decisions such as drugs, alcohol or reckless behavior.

So, how do you support your teenager? First of all, supporting does not mean letting them do whatever they want to do. They need to know that you care, and showing that you care means making some unpopular decisions. If your teen wants to go somewhere, its important to let them know that you care enough about them to find out where, how long and with whom. Some parents have blind faith and don't even inquire as to where their child is going and this can often be interpreted as uncaring or unsupportive by a teen.

What if they want to do something and you feel it would be dangerous or inappropriate at their age? Well, being supportive means explaining your point of view and hopefully you can compromise a happy medium with your teen. But sometimes that is not an option, and the answer no with an explanation, is all you can do. They may get angry with you for the moment, but that too, will pass. And eventually they will realize that you made the decision out of love.

Supporting your teenager also means being active in their interests. Transporting them to and watching their sporting events, talking with their teachers to find out how they are doing in school, asking to see their homework, and also making them responsible for chores at home.

Don't forget to make time to sit down (uninterrupted) to talk with your teenager about how things are going at school, with their friends, or other activities. This shows that you respect them and are supportive of them. Giving them this type of attention is not difficult to do, but often times, parents believe that because their child is no longer "young" that this type of attention is not as important. The truth is, that it is actually a very important and necessary thing in a young adult's life, because they are now making decisions that may affect the rest of their lives. This is when they need the most advice and support from their parents.

But that type of conversation and supervision should not begin when the child becomes a teenager. Supportive dialog should have begun as an infant, and continued into the teen years. It is not uncommon for parents to realize that the child needs more structure and supervision after things have gotten out of control. Unfortunately, if you haven't set the guidelines and rules before they become teens, its going to be very difficult to make an impact now.

Supporting a Grown & Independent Child

Once again, the role of a supportive parent changes once the child has grown up and moved away from the home. The only way you can ensure that your grown child will come to you for advice or support is to make sure that you offer advice ONLY when asked. Hopefully, you have raised your child to make good decisions and be a responsible adult. Now, they are here to get practical advice or comfort from the parent, and your supportive role means you will not criticize their decisions or make them feel like they are failing at adulthood. Of course they will make mistakes and they will also make decisions that you disagree with. But your role as a supportive parent is to be their cheerleader and their safe place to come home to.

What if they make a decision that you disagree with? Well, you can give them your non-judgmental perspective on the situation and then tell them that either way they decide to go you will support them. I guarantee that if they walk away from you feeling better than when they came to you, they will come back to you the next time they need your love, advice and support.

And the best part is, they will know what it means to be a loving and supportive parent - and this will be passed on to their children.

Becoming a Professional Basketball Player

By admin On July 31, 2010 No Comments

·    The stakes are high before anyone from high school can get an acceptance from any college that offers athletic scholarships.  The road to that much-sought-after scholarship is definitely spiky.  The basketball game, alone, requires physical stamina and mental endurance.  When these are established, there are more to conquer such as the college application, finalizing your portfolio (resume with completed works attached), and knowing which college coach to approach and to sell your skills.

·    Once you have landed a scholarship and you start to fulfill your childhood dream, then you might begin to feel that school basketball is no longer sufficient to satiate your aching for the professional basketball league.  If you have decided to go pro and believe that you can, then read these time-tested guidelines that will surely make you the next 'talk of the town':

1.    Be committed.  Once you feel that you have the talent to become a professional basketball player, then commit yourself.  Don't chicken out at the slightest sign of obstacles (because there will be many).

2.    It is imperative for you to be on top of your game at all times.  Make the impression that you are a go-getter and that you can accomplish whatever you set your mind to.  Prepare yourself physically.  In terms of endurance, if you are able to run a mile, then do two.  Double your efforts and the results will be doubled as well.

3.    Impress your coach.  He will be able to back you up on any applications that you make.  When he is assured that he has a key player on his team, he might be able to make recommendations.  If not, at least the word will get around that a certain player performs each game like it is the last game of his life.

4.    Professional basketball is a form of employment and, thus, a career.  If you have submitted your best resumes for the college athletic scholarship, then it's a must to submit something more than your best.  Highlight the skills that make you an asset to the professional team (examples are your statistics, newspaper articles that were written about you or your team, proof of game programs, etc.).  Express your desire to enter the professional league by adding a cover letter.  Make sure that the complete application papers are forwarded ahead of schedule.

5.    Since professional basketball doesn't require licensing, time and again, the importance of getting good grades is reiterated.  Most professional leagues require their players to have graduated from college or be nearing graduation.  Graduating students should graduate within the prescribed calendar year.  If not, some leagues are able to take in high school graduates.  To add to that, they not only require mere graduates but graduates who made good grades.

6.    Develop a professional attitude.  Learn punctuality and self-discipline in all matters.  Also, know how to bridle your anger.  The slightest provocation could send you home and deprive you of the chance to earn $25,000-$20 million every year.  Be sure that you are emotionally mature enough to take the rigors of the job.

7.    Apply as early as when you are 20 years of age.  In NBA, for instance, they will require you to have graduated from high school at least two years prior to the recruitment process.

8.    Prepare to be homesick.  Most professional basketball players have to travel (very far away) from their home so psyche yourself to be tough in all circumstances.  Success will only come to those who are willing to sacrifice something in return.

9.    Get yourself an agent that will serve as your counselor.  These agents will further your basketball career by helping you connect to the right people in the industry.  If you are one of those players who gets called from agents without even asking for one, then you are mightily blessed.

10.    When you are retired, what will you do?  You have to have a buffer career for your retirement years.  If you can, establish a business and a sizeable savings.  Know that there is life beyond the basketball court and that you will inevitably live that.

Do You Have The Discipline To Make Money?

By admin On July 31, 2010 No Comments

Your ability to involve yourself in moneymaking ventures may have everything to do with discipline and practical application.

For instance if you want to be an expert at marketing and you want others to pay you to help them launch a great marketing campaign then you need to know a lot about marketing. In fact, you need to keep updating your skills.

If you offer a skill you need to be disciplined enough to expand your knowledge on the subject. It may not be enough to simply learn a skill and indicate you know everything there is to know on the subject. You may need to continuously learn new facets to the service you offer.

The thing that can set you apart from the competition is that as you gain advanced knowledge on the subject matter you specialize in you may begin to detect patterns and trends that may be meaningful in how you do business and how you help your customers. Your insight may prove beneficial to your clients.

I suppose for some service oriented businesses there may be less of a need for ongoing skills training, but when you discipline yourself to become an authority in your field your business will likely be seen as more valuable and trusted.

One of my skills is marketing so I discipline myself to spend time each day in researching new ways to market ideas, products and services. By taking the time to do that I come to a place where it becomes easier to detect innovation from basic marketing information. It can even become easy to spot articles on marketing that may be off the mark and then explain why this idea may not work from a practical standpoint.

In other words I have become a marketing geek. Most people don't care and possibly think I am being a bit obsessive when it comes to the subject and yet the information I have learned has helped me in building my own businesses. It has helped me assist others in doing the same thing.

Know more than you have to know. Learn more than you have to learn. In many cases you will be able to spot problems before they become huge issues for your clients. Your increased knowledge often means being able to provide unique insight that goes beyond basic skills.

What's more is that when you gain increased skills you also gain another potential moneymaking idea. When you grow into an expert status you can begin to sell your expertise to a secondary market. This is often made possible through the development and sale of an ebook on the subject or the development of a seminar.

Many people want to know more about a multitude of subjects, but they don't have the patience and/or discipline to glean that information from multiple sources. You can take your disciplined approach to business and help others make sense of following a similar path to success in a one-stop shop atmosphere.

Can you spare a few minutes a day to learn more about your chosen field? Can you use the building blocks of learning to develop innovative ways to help others? Your answers could improve your overall ability to make money.

How to Deal with Defiance in Children Who Have Experienced Trauma

By admin On July 31, 2010 No Comments

"No, I don't feel like it."  That was the response I got a few weeks ago when I asked my adopted son to take a shower.  I had prepared him ahead of time, given him a five minute warning, and had retrieved his clothing to make it easier.  Still, he was "defying" me.  Why?

For a stranger watching this exchange, you may have thought I was too lenient in my response when I replied, "Okay, I'm going to ask you again in five minutes."  When we signed up for our foster parent program I would have laughed at such a response. If you knew my son however, and the dark issues of trauma that surround his past, you would know something deeper was at work here.

Traumatized children are sometimes hard to read.  We make assumptions about them that are untrue based on our own perceptions.  The biggest thing I have learned about dealing with what looks like defiance in my adopted children is that things are often not what they seem.  If I can keep my cool long enough to get to the heart of the matter, scenarios like this one do not escalate and my kids are happier, and more relaxed.  In addition, they have fewer discipline problems.  Not because I ignore their
issues (they aren't the type of issues that can be ignored!) but because I approach my children with understanding and mercy.

So what did I do about the shower?  First, I considered the situation.  We were up late the night before and often that means my son has urinated in his pull-up.  He has a distended bowel due to anxiety (former foster kids often have anxiety issues) and
late nights can mean he has feces in his pants as well.  This makes him embarrassed, especially since he doesn't have the small motor skills to clean himself up properly. Usually when he refuses to take a shower it means he needs help but is too embarrassed to ask.  When the timer beeped I made sure we were out of earshot of his siblings and quietly asked him if he needed help getting cleaned up.  He nodded and went immediately to the bathroom.

This issue was not defiance at all--it was a simple matter of embarrassment.  If I had treated it as defiance (which I am sad to report, I have in the past) it would only have damaged my relationship with my son and we would not have solved anything. He may have been clean, but our relationship may have needed repairing.  One step forward, two steps back.

Know your child.  Know his issues.  Learn his heart and lead him to the love you have for him.

Great Selection of Sports–to Benefit Children With Autism

By admin On July 31, 2010 No Comments

There are many sports that can help children with autism. As a matter of fact, there is a great selection, to get your child interested, for him or her to create a new experience, and fun. I have learned, there is no special one-of-a-kind sport for your child to enjoy. Introduce your child to various sports that you think your child might have an interest in, or the sport your child talks about having an interest in, and would like to try it.

It is imperative to remember, each child who has autism has various communication skills, and various coordination and motor skills. Know the strengths and weaknesses of your child before you introduce him or her to certain sports. However, there are some children, whose weaknesses, become stronger with certain sports and they develop better motor, and coordination skills. Never force or push your child into a sport that is not going to be helpful for their well-being.

Some of the selections of sports are:

* Swimming--this sport is relaxing, it can be fun, by throwing a ball back and forth, floating and coordination of using strokes to strengthen, legs and arms.

* Hiking--this is a great sport to get fresh air, see the beauty of nature, flowers, birds, bugs, rocks, and it is peaceful. It requires very little communication, if your child chooses not to talk or wants to be less talkative. It is another sport that is less stressful.

* Bike riding--this sport can be introduced, when your child is young. You might want to start out with training wheels or a bicycle built for two (tandem bicycle), that would help your child feel more comfortable. Bike riding is a great way to exercise, strengthen muscles, obtain balance and coordination. It can be a sport for the whole family to enjoy.

These are a few of the great selections of sports your child can be part of . The various kinds of sports, depend on where you live, the climate, the season, and what your child is capable of doing.

Having your child participate in sports, builds, their self-esteem, teaches team work, better communication, better motor skills, coordination, discipline, and brings the family together as a unit.

Try to introduce your child to various sports at all levels of their age. If your child gets frustrated with noise, crowds, or has a difficult time understanding how to play some of the sports, start out simple, for example, something like hiking, or just going to a relaxing garden, where there are flowers and little stress.

You as parent(s), caregiver(s), know your child, but never give up, because children with autism have many abilities to enjoy, and take part in many activities of sports. Be creative, and encourage your child. It will be a joyful experience.

Horse Racing Tipsters – You Need To Consider These Facts Before Choosing Your Service!

By admin On July 31, 2010 No Comments

Every single punter betting on horse racing, to some degree does so after assimilating information from a variety of sources. Some will study a form book for hours on end creating their own bets for the day. Many however do not have the time or inclination to do all of this hard work. In the process employing the services of horse racing tipsters. It is a fact that less than five percent of punters actually turn a profit in the long run, and it is highly likely those following the best horse racing tipsters are in that hallowed elite group.

Why is this figure so so low? After all there is a lot of readily available information out there regarding the chances of any horse on any given day?

Firstly we are dealing here with horses not machines and just like us maybe down the gym, all have their off days. The industry however also needs the ninety plus percent to lose in order to survive! So if every horse actually ran to the form book on consistent ground then it surely would be too easy to make money betting on horse racing? The majority or horses run at handicap level, and due to the nature of handicap races it is possible to manipulate a horses chances.

Trainers often send their runners out over the wrong trip or ground conditions in order to lose on one race day to benefit another future race day. A horses performance dictates its future racing weight, therefore a string of bad results can greatly help to increase the horses chance over the best type of race for the horse. It is often the case that when a horse is deemed to have its optimum chance and with a generous price on offer that the horse will spring back to life and run a huge race on that day, when the money is down!

Simply put, aside from top level championship races, the toughest part of selecting a winner is not 'does it have the form to win?' but 'is it actually attempting to run its race today to win!?'

Now with purely that statement in mind, it now becomes very apparent just why so many people rely on quality horse racing tipsters to supply information to them regards a selections chances. Without some form of guidance from someone in the know, every time you bet without this knowledge you are second guessing. Unfortunately, the perspective of horse racing tipsters from the public at large is not as it could be. Thanks to the bad few who have with greed, managed to tarnish this trade, horse racing tipsters are either completely revered or taken for fraudsters!

The truth is, as with any serious investment you need to do your research and be sure to join a winning service with a proven track record. No service can guarantee results, however those in business for over five years have proved their worth and are well worth considering. So when choosing a horse racing tipster this is what you need to consider:

Do you have a sufficient betting bank to justify the outlay?

Do you have the patience to make bets only when advised?

Can you adopt a long term profit strategy rather than hoping for overnight success?

Do you really want to become one of the two percent who win long term?

If you have answered yes to all of the above then it is time you considered choosing your own horse racing tipsters service from the many that exist. You can find many that will offer an introductory membership of three months. This will give you a chance to invest and begin to learn the discipline that is required to make the information pay long term.

Christian Dating Tips

By admin On July 31, 2010 No Comments

When in comes to dating, Christians set a different standard. Christian dating is more of a conservative engagement. Some people prefer it this way because they want to preserve the religious tradition of the family. Christians feels safe and secure in the arms of their fellow Christians. We have come up with Christian dating tips to guide you.

Know the limitations of the date. Always be wary of the conviction of your partner. Do not force your partner into doing something that is against his or her own belief. For example, do not offer cigarettes to a devout Christian. Christians, by default, are prohibited to do vices.

Study your intentions. Most of the time, Christian dating is not a venue for small term relationship. When you immerse yourself in this kind of dating, a long term relationship is the aim. It is not child's play also. It is definitely not fun to play with another person's feelings.

Research about the other person's background. This is important to know the person better. When you have different denominations, for example, you research on what prohibitions are there in their group that are freely practiced in yours. In this case, you are careful not to step into your partner's personal space.

Always remember that the church frowns at premarital sex. No matter how tempting it is to give in to your body's desire, you have to reserve it. This is a wonderful way of the church to preserve one's emotion by instilling patience. This practice makes both parties think that sex is a sacred gift that only married couples can give to one another. This practice can be very frustrating for some but followers claim it is a wonderful experience.

Be open about to each other. Frankness and honesty is vital in a relationship. Open up about differences. Do not hold secrets to your partner especially secrets in the past that may ruin the reputation of the partner in the future. It is better to warn your partner ahead if your past contains a bleak history.

Ask Christian dating tips from your trusted church authorities and also your parents. They are the ones who are well-immersed in the religious tradition of dating. A common mistake committed by Christian individuals is the stubbornness in following the rules. Some chose to be ignorant of the set rules of the church. Consult your religious leaders if you have doubts.

Respect each other's differences. There may be times when the two of you argue about a certain issue. Arguments are normal even to no non-Christian couples. Respect is a basic word repetitively highlighted in Christian dating tips. If you don't respect the personal space of each other, trouble will be evident. Learn to step down once in a while if you see that the argument is just petty.

An important factor in Christian relationships is spiritual nourishment. Nurture each other in the faith by discussing beliefs and religious traditions to each other. Spiritual nourishment connects the two of you in conviction as well as at heart.

Some Great Tips on How to Save Money Part 1

By admin On July 31, 2010 No Comments

1. Gift Wrapping Papers

Why buy expensive gift wrapping papers from the market, if you can make them at home? Plain brown grocery paper bags are what you can begin with. Take out your painting brush and craft paints. Give your imagination a free run. Remember that the sky is the limit, so far as your creativity and imagination go. Paint any design and rest assured that your effort would be well appreciated by those who receive your gift. You can paint flowers, trees, butterflies, bees, birds or whatever fancies you.

2. Saving on Gifts

Everyone loves receiving and giving gifts. If you have a large family, you may end up spending a lot of money buying gifts for each member, and receiving gifts you may have no need for. You may talk to your family members and come to an understanding to limit the giving of gifts to children only. This way you keep the children, who love to receive gifts, happy, and save a substantial amount of money too.

3. Homemade Gifts

Everyone loves receiving gifts. A homemade gift is any day more appreciated than gifts purchased from the market. One can actually feel the warmth that is associated with homemade gifts. If you have time on hand then there is no dearth of opportunities to exhibit your skills. You can make gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, Christmas gifts, babies and more.

You can knit a sweater or a pair of booties for a little baby; make cakes for occasions, or weave baskets. There is no end to what you can create at home. Wrap your gifts with homemade packaging and tie it with a bow.

4. Movie Shows

If you are a movie buff, you must know that matinee and late afternoon shows are cheaper than nighttime or late night shows. If you are planning to treat your family to a movie, take them during the day. The savings could well be more than half of what you normally spend. It is as good as seeing two movies at the cost of one nighttime movie.

Eateries inside the movie theater offer food at prices that can burn a big hole in your pocket. It would be a great idea if you carry some homemade popcorns, and candies along with you to munch inside while watching the movie. Some movie tickets come at discounted prices. Check online and you will get to save money on that account too. So, you know now how to save good money while taking your family out to see a movie.

5. Saving at Home

Make everyone in your family participate in making savings wherever they can. Inculcate a habit of turning off the lights when leaving the room. Initially, you or your kids may forget to do so. Fix a fun-punishment for those who break this rule. Water heaters may be run on low settings, if warm water is the need. Higher settings consume more power. If the air outside is cooler, you may open the windows to let in fresh and cool air. This way you can save significantly on your air conditioning. All these little things done consciously can make a huge contribution to your saving.

6. Reward Scheme

Start a reward scheme at home encouraging all your family members to become conscientious savers. Achievers may be rewarded with stuff they want. If you want to avoid expenses on taxis, encourage them to use public transport. The savings that are made on this account can be used to finance different needs of individuals in the family. You may also spend the amount saved on a family outing.

7. Right Attitude

It is important to develop the right attitude towards saving. In fact, the entire family needs to have a healthy view on saving. You need to develop a habit of not wasting resources and being aware of the need of saving. Do not think that you cannot save, because if you make a conscious effort, you certainly can.

8. Not All Unused Stuff is Useless

Teach your children the concept and importance of saving. Tell them not to throw away things they do not need. It is often seen that teenagers throw away things that are of no need to them without realizing that what is not good for them may be good for some other family member. You may check a few times with your children the stuff that they consider of no use to them, and make them realize how important it may be for someone in the house. Unused gum tubes, make up, clothes, accessories etc. may come in handy. So, these should not be thrown away.

9. Family Saving Plan

Get your family together and let them participate in the family saving plan. Ask for their ideas on how to make savings. Let your teenaged kids come forward and suggest ways to save on the telephone bill. If you give them responsibility, they will act consciously. Discuss other saving matters with them, making them aware of what needs to be done, and how wasteful expenditure can be curtailed.

10. Buffets and Money Saving

When you are on an outing with your family, you can have your lunch or dinner in a restaurant that offers buffet.

Plan your vacations in advance, and plan them for the off-season. Prices all-round are considerably lower during the off-season. You will find hotel accommodation, cars and airfare at heavily discounted prices. That is a lot in terms of saving when you are traveling with your family.

If you happen to be the kind that loves solitude and peace, then there is nothing like an off-season holiday. You may also plan to book your hotel accommodation just one day in advance to the start of the holiday season. This one day translates into substantial saving for you.You can save a lot of money that way. If your child is young, you can share your meals. Moreover, buffets offer a wide range of menus to select from. Buffets are a win-win situation from the point of view of food and saving.

12. Networking

If you have two computers in different rooms in your house, it is best to have them networked. There is no point paying twice over and have two high-speed cable connections for both the computers. Arrange your computers in such a way that one of them acts as a primary computer and the other as the backup. Martial Arts Training – Things to Consider Before You Jump on the Path of Self Training!

By admin On July 31, 2010 No Comments

Everyday, I have people telling me that they are "self-taught" in their martial arts training. And, the truth is that, very few people can claim to be "self-taught" in anything - let alone the martial arts.

Here's an example of being self-taught.

Find a place where you'll probably end up being attacked or involved in a fight pretty easily.

As soon as you're ready to "teach yourself" something, go up to someone who looks like they're having a bad day, or that they hate the world. Engage this person in conversation that makes them "want" to beat, break, or kill you.

Now, do everything you think you should, would, or could to protect yourself and control the attacker.

Finally, check yourself out of the hospital and repeat these steps until this one is no longer necessary!

That's "self-taught!"

Well, almost. I'm sure your opponents will have something to do with the lessons you'll be learning!

In addition to the misunderstood concept where solo-training, or training on your own is seen as being "self-taught" - rather than being more like a "distance training student" who's teacher or teachers are not in the same town...

The following is a short list of just some of those things that can be a pitfall or trap for the unprepared student training on his or her own without the ongoing guidance of a teacher:

a. You can only see what you know

This is true about all students. That's why we seek out a teacher. However, if we lack the experience of actually having "been there" inside real attacks, or we do not understand the science, strategical thinking, or technology that lies at the foundation of the techniques we're reading about or seeing in videos...

...it's highly unlikely that we'll be able to train correctly until you do.

b. No one to point out your mistakes

No matter how hard you try, you can only see any technique from the perspective with which you're looking at it. Even my own students who are right there in class with me, miss the fact that I'm moving my legs a certain way to deliver a strike, or the alignment of my torso to the long staff as it turns.

While this is related to #1 above, the fact is that to be able to engage in solo training - you need more than some picture or video demonstrating the technique. You need the eyes of someone who knows what the technique "should be doing to the opponent" - or whether you're leaving yourself open to a counter attack - to know whether it's correct or not.

c. The way you do anything is a good sign about the way you do everything

If you're house is a mess. If you barely put enough effort into work to not lose your job. If you can't do any one thing for more than a few seconds without getting bored and quitting. And...

...if you can't get away from your email, IM, and video games long enough to practice...

You're certainly not going to have the commitment, self-control, discipline, and attention to detail required of someone training on his or her own and seeking mastery!

d. No one understands you

You're also going to have to have a pretty high level of self-confidence and self-esteem to do solo training. or, you're going to have to train in a cave. Because, without the support of other like-minded students working on the same things that you are - as-well-as working "through" the same challenges of balancing work, life, family, and the opinions of others...

...so training can get pretty rough for the weak of heart. I should know. This was my primary path to learning throughout my early years as a student, when my teacher was at least a 9 hour drive away in a different State!

These points are not meant to turn you away from solo training. On the contrary. The true warrior is prepared for the worst, and accepts the ups and downs equally.

To only focus on what you'll get out of solo training is also to be unprepared for the obstacles, roadblocks, and dangers that can prevent you from reaching mastery at all!

How to Get a Kid With Adhd Involved in Sports

By admin On July 31, 2010 No Comments

ADHD or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a neurobehavioral based disorder. The symptoms include hyperactivity, as well as the inability to pay attention, aggression and mood swings. ADHD can be found in adults as well as children, but it is only most commonly diagnosed in young children.

Often times, it can be hard for a kid with ADHD to get involved in sports. Many sports require the ability to completely concentrate and stay focused. As well, certain sports may require that the child remain calm and quiet in many instances. However there are a variety of different sports that can be ideal for a child with ADHD.

An excellent choice for someone with ADHD is team sports. One example of a good sport for a kid with ADHD would be soccer. A lot of running and the need to work together with other teammates is needed to play soccer. In a child that experiences the hyperactivity side of ADHD, a sport that involves running is a great way to burn off the excessive energy.

Another great sport for kids suffering with ADHD is running or track. Again, the idea behind this is that the kids can run and burn off excessive energy. They also do not have to use a lot of concentration in such sports.

Hockey is an excellent sport for a child who has been diagnosed with ADHD. Hockey requires a lot of action and is a fast paced game. In the average hockey game, there is very little down time in which the kids need to remain calm and quiet.

Karate is a sport that is good for someone with ADHD. Karate not only gives the child the ability to burn off some of his excess frustrations, it also gives the child the ability to learn discipline and structure. Structure is extremely important in a child with ADHD.

In little kids, t-ball is a poor choice for someone with ADHD. Waiting your turn to bat is extremely hard for any little one. However, if you add in the ADHD factor, it becomes nearly impossible. Once the child is placed in the outfield, his attention will drift off even further, since there is often very little activity out there.

One sport that would be not be a good choice for someone who has been diagnosed with ADHD is golf. Golf requires a great deal of patients and the ability to remain calm and quiet throughout the game. This is often a difficult task for a child with ADHD.

Kids with ADHD and sports can go hand in hand with some careful planning. If your son or daughter has been diagnosed with ADHD, it is important that you find a sport that fits with their particular personality. If at first you do not find a sport that is a perfect fit, do not give up hope. Simply try additional sports, until you find the perfect one. Sports give all children, especially those with ADHD, the ability to burn off the excess energy and stress they often carry with them.

Problems With The Kids During The Holiday Period? Use EFT

By admin On July 31, 2010 No Comments

No matter how much you love and adore your kids, there will be moments when parenthood is tested to its limits. Coping with children when they are off school for weeks can be quite an endurance test for even the most laid back parent. The challenge of entertaining the kids whilst maintaining the usual chores at home and work can be quite a handful to juggle.

When the kids are at home, away from school and many of their school friends on holiday, parents face a hitherto unheard problem: Boredom. Children like the discipline and routine during school. Everything is organised and follows predictable routines. As much as all kids are looking forward to their holidays the enthusiasm often wears off after only a few days. Once the novelty of living into the day has lost its excitement the days become long and boring. School friends may be on vacation and there is no one to play with but the parents or siblings. I am sure, as a parent you know the scenario only too well.

Here you are forever looking for ways to keep the little darlings busy and out of mischief. The kid's holiday rarely is a holiday for parents. Your workload is easily doubled and you probably can't wait for school to begin again.

However, you can help yourself and your children out of this tough spot surprisingly easily.

You may have heard of energy therapy and how it can get results for all kinds of problems fast and easily. One of the best techniques to use is EFT, Emotional Freedom Technique. It's ease of use and flexibility makes it the perfect stress relief and problem solving tool for parents and their children. . .

When you first use this technique, it looks and feels a little strange, Kids love it, because of that. They have fewer inhibitions then us adults, In my practice I often get faster and better results with kids then with adults, They are so open and eager to try something new. As a parent you can use this fact to your advantage.

Now, what exactly is EFT?

EFT is simple, powerful and effective. When using EFT you focus the mind on a specific problem, whilst at the same time tapping with your fingertips on a number of meridian points to stimulate the body's energy system. Mind focus together with the action of physical tapping is a very fast way to change your vibrational energy almost instantaneously. As you feel your energy increasing, you also dissolve any resistance to changing your mind state. You now move effortlessly into problem solving mode.

You continue tapping and focusing on the issue you wish to resolve. By tuning into the vibrational frequency of your emotional state you can change it quickly, thus releasing the unwanted emotion and creating the space for positive thoughts and feelings to enter. As a result your emotional state can be changed in minutes.

Since EFT can be applied to any problem you could have a quality fun time with your kids learning to apply it and at the same time releasing any stress or feelings of boredom or tension in yourself and your kids. EFT can be used in a humorous and fun way, on literally anything.

Domestic Violence . . .is it Still Really a Big Deal?

By admin On July 31, 2010 2 Comments

What’s all the fuss about regarding domestic violence in the United States anyway? After all, in this day and age, people in some countries beat their wives on a regular basis and it’s quite accepted by their general population. So, here in the United States, are we making too much of a fuss regarding domestic violence? No we’re not. On the contrary we should make sure we keep vigilant against it no matter what some other backward countries may be doing or accepting.

In numerous cases men are still using women in America as pieces of property with limited rights. There are many who do not “let” their wives or girlfriends shop by themselves or severely limit the time they are “allowed” to be out and about by themselves. They use scores of ways such as name-calling, humiliation and criticizing to break them down psychologically in an effort to control them. “You’re stupid” or “you can’t make it without me” are common lines droned in to many women regularly, to control them. They keep them from relatives, friends and in many cases even from work. And of course, there are the ones who take their control even further by physically assaulting.

Socio-economic boundaries really have little to do with it. I knew an attractive, well-to-do woman in her early thirties whom at times moved in high society circles and actually dated a famous Prince before settling down with a “regular guy”. Well, this “regular” guy beat her so severely one night that she told me if police had not intervened when they did, she would have been killed. It was that close for her. Her face looked as though she had gone 12 rounds with the heavyweight champion of the world.

Laws protecting women in the U.S. have drastically improved in the last ten years or so, however, domestic abuse is still a major problem across the country. All you have to do is to listen to local or national news to hear of another woman killed by her “crazed” boyfriend or husband or hear of another domestic violence arrest being made. And take it from me, a former police officer who still has close ties to law enforcement--it still happens all the time, much more often than the average person thinks.

So what must women do to restrict domestic violence? There are several keys to understand, believe and follow:

· There is nothing you can do or say that merits someone hitting or beating you up. Nothing! They can divorce you, leave you, or call the police on you. They do not, however, have the right to strike you. You are not a child who needs to be disciplined. You are an adult and no one has the right to physically harm you short of for self-defense reasons. That is the first thing to know, believe and remember. It is the truth.

· You must not accept one bit of physical abuse from your partner.

· If assaulted, get out or call the police. If you get out, stay away until your partner is actually getting psychological help. Domestic abusers are apt to re-offend without counseling.

· If you are regularly being humiliated, criticized and over-controlled, seek help.

· Unquestionably, contact and utilize the help available from the many organizations out there for women in need. Look in your local phone book or call information and ask for organizations that help domestic violence victims in your area, or utilize the National organizations listed below:

1. The National Domestic Violence Hotline: 1-800-799-SAFE (7233)

1-800-787-3224 (TTY)

2. The Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network: 1.800.656.HOPE (4673)

There are two bottom lines here. The first being domestic abuse is alive and well in the United States. The second one is that no one; man, woman or child deserves to live in abuse. All people, no matter who they are, have to believe they do not deserve an abusive lifestyle. Some victims may not believe this to be true, however, it unquestionably is, and with proper help they too can understand its truth.

If you happen to be a victim, remember you’re part of a large group, you’re not alone. Be one of those who take action. Action towards getting help—do it now.

The More Things Change

By admin On July 31, 2010 No Comments

"...the more things remain the same."

As they gathered around the salad bar, one employee said,  "that must be the umpteenth announcement this month."

One of the senior employees smiled. "Don't worry.  It's all talk.  There's never any follow-through.  Trust me, I've been here long enough.  Things will NEVER change around here."

We remembered conversations like this in the company we worked for.  The pattern was familiar:  first, a crescendo of excitement, then implementation, and then half-way through the project, you never heard anything again.

Take the Ball and Run With It

Momentum.  That's one of the most beautiful words in the English language.  We like using it when we speak of change.  At the organizational level, past experience tells us that when there are leaders versus followers and initiative versus resistance, change becomes a very difficult process to manage.

Common sense dictates that to initiate change the buy-in of EVERYONE in the company is needed.  Even if the change affects only a segment of the corporation, executives and the rank and file must believe that the change will be good.  Common sense also dictates that the person responsible for overseeing the change must be supported by his superiors and his team members.  It isn't fair to tell the person, "take the ball and run with it" without providing him with the resources and diligent guidance.

This is why the intended change does not materialize. Somewhere in the implementation,  momentum diminishes and gradually disappears.

Six Sigma and Change Management

Change imposes generous doses of enthusiasm, a disciplined approach, unconditional support from those who have the resources and strict measurement of progress.  Change connotes obstacles - a large corporation is a collection of human ambitions going in different directions - unstoppable, driven, and selfish.

Does change have a chance then?

Yes!

Business case studies prove that change does happen in spite of real challenges.  Success comes easier when management takes the time to participate and act in a democratic manner.  When we say "democratic", we mean key executives take an active part and not just pay lip service to the concepts and processes involved in a given change.  Management engages in sincere dialog and is open to the opinions of others.

Six Sigma offers valuable lessons in change management. In a business environment where the desire to implement change is customarily met by resistance, leaders can look to Six Sigma as a concept, an approach, a culture, a set of statistical tools, a philosophy, a sacred ritual that's been tried and tested.

If there's one defining trait for Six Sigma, it's flexibility.  Companies are cleverly combining Six Sigma with other change management tools to reach targets.  You are aware of how companies have blended Lean with Six Sigma, where they take Toyota's lean manufacturing strategies and combine them with Motorola's measurement tools to track progress in cost reduction efforts without sacrificing customer loyalty.

Using DMAIC and ADKAR in Change Management

In Lean Six Sigma, we learned how DMAIC can be an effective tool to bring about desired changes to the company's profitability.  DMAIC (define, measure, analyze, improve and control) necessitates a certain structure, serving as a roadmap for the attainment of a company's stated objectives.  There are times, however, when a company may need to combine DMAIC with other proven change management tools.

One such tool is ADKAR - acronym for awareness, desire, knowledge, ability and reinforcement.  Note that it harmonizes with the five steps of DMAIC.

Rick McCormick of the Change Management Learning Center explains ADKAR by aligning it with DMAIC.

Project leaders build awareness (ADKAR) of the change by defining (DMAIC) what that change is and who will implement it.  Desire (ADKAR) must be felt and embraced by those who will be affected by the change so that inputs and outputs can be measured (DMAIC).  For change to be off to a good start, leaders must possess the knowledge (ADKAR) necessary for successful implementation, but this requires an analysis (DMAIC) of factual data.  Going hand in hand with analysis is the ability (ADKAR) to deploy the right measures so that the desired improvement (DMAIC) can be sustained.  To complete the process, the change must be reinforced (ADKAR) where standard operating procedures and training manuals will serve to control (DMAIC) aspects and consequences of the change.

McCormick pointed out that important questions such as profile coherence, divergence of opinions, and problem areas must be settled first before getting to what he calls the "toll gate" - the end point of each ADKAR phase.
