What shows up in an pre-employment criminal background check?
I hopefully going to a job interview in the morning, According to their want ad it says pre-employment drug screening and criminal back ground check.
The drug screening Im not worried about, Ive stayed away from the poppy-seed rolls. oh and drugs ofcorse.
But the Criminal background check Im a little worried about. Five yeas ago I was charged with Speeding 70 in a 55 and DUI, Only trouble ive ever been in, And only reason I was charged with DUI is because I SPLIT one beer with a friend about an hour before I drove. I blew a 0.004 state limit is 0.8 BUT I was only 20 and in NC, If you blow ANYTHING , and your under 21 its an automatic DUI. sad part is I hate drinking, and I have a DUI on my record that I have paid dearly for. (over $5000 in fines, classes, and C. service)
The job im applying for has nothing to do with driving, Will the DUI & Speeding show up anyway?
I want to find out before I go to my interview, If it is going to show up, I would like to be honest and plead my case in hopes they over look it.
But if it DON”T show up, Then I would much much much rather have them or anyone else know about it. Its a huge embarrassment for me, & it make me out to look like a drunk when I don’t even drink.
thanks

Criminal pre employment background check?
3 years ago my husband applied for a position with a corporate owned funeral home, he was told he could not be hired because he failed the background check. They never told him what was on there and he never asked why. He has “passed” 3 background checks since then for different companies. He has now applied and been offered a management position with the original company he applied with (the one where he failed the background check) So here’s my question…why would someone pass a background check with several companies and then fail one??

Did they say it was a criminal check he failed?
Background checks also include past employment and credit checks. Different jobs have different background requirements. the job he applied for could have required certain experiences he has now that he did not have then. His credit score could have been too low then and it is not now. There may even be things in the background check that we can not even imagine. Some employers could have even used that as an excuse to not hire him even if there was nothing there.

What do Employers use to perform pre-employment background checks?
What site or service provider (if any) do most employers use to run pre-employment criminal background checks? Also, if a conviction is had in 1 state, will the record of it show up on a background check performed in a different state?

Depends on the state, most places 5 years, unless it’s a serious felony, then forever unless your record is cleared or you get a pardon from the governor. Also if it’s a federal conviction, it likely wont show up at all. Almost no one pays to check federal criminal records.

A higher end service would be CrimCheck ( http://www.crimcheck.com ), they have actual investigators digg deep into court and other systems to provide the most information. Those background check generally cost $50-$100 and can take up to a week.
Faster and cheaper results come from instant background check websites, such as http://www.easybackgroundchecks.com , they usualy cost $15 for a statewide check and $30 for a nationwide check, but since the data comes from online records only, courts that haven’t put thier records into a computer will not show in these reports. But they still do a good job.
