Financial commitments are some of the most critical engagements that a person gets into in modern life. Consider that financial institutions can get into million dollar loaning schemes with some individual where in they run the huge risk of not getting back their money and even the accumulated interest.

What formulates the risk factor is that the borrower may die or fall sick and get into any condition that will make it impossible to repay the loan. One other reason can be that the borrower is a fraud star simply seeking to fleece the bank or a financial institution a huge amount of many. This is therefore why as a money borrower you will be subjected to a rigorous financial background check before any financial organisation can do the loaning business with you.

The other side to the need to conduct financial background checks is that some authorities and individuals entrusted with the privileges of accessing critical and private information about people often abuse the information. Information may be abused in many ways, it can be character defamation or on the other extreme the use of the information to commit serious crimes and fraud. As you are subjected too such checks make it a point that you are familiar with all relevant legislature to the aspects and this way you will make sure that your personal rights are not being violated.

I believe you can request their credit report. You must subscribe to this service (credit reports for organizations).

~~That information you are wanting could never be done online or any other way. Banks do not report any ones safe deposit boxes or bank accounts. In fact it is highly secured information. Only the IRS can access this information.

For property you can either pay a background check report like at http://www.zabasearch.com or for free you can go into the county recorder office (most are online and search for it that way) in any county’s you think property could be in.~~

Companies providing a “Financial Analysis” / Background Check of companies you might want to work with?
I am looking for a website or company that can run a quick financial background check on a US-based company we are thinking of working with. We don’t want to send the goods if they have a bad track record, and might not pay upon delivery.

Does anyone know of a website, even if it requires a payment, that helps you see the financial background of a company?

The company is “incorporated” (privately held)

Each company does its background checks a little differently. Banking is a very sensitive industry and their background checks typically include examining your references, credit report, and criminal history. If they found out why you were let go from your previous job, then that is most likely the reason you didn’t get the job. Privacy is very important in banking and if you violated the privacy policy at your last job, most banks will quickly disqualify you.

Do banks or financial institutions check the national retail theft database as part of their background check?
I did a stupid thing once, shoplifting. The police wasn’t involved and i paid the civil demand. I know some retailers still put the info in the privately shared database. So, I am wondering if banks check this as part of their pre-employment background check? Is this information even legal to use against a new hire since it is not a public record.

Thanks for the help and advice!

Banks and retail stores do background checks for employment, they also do credit checks (banks). See if there is anything you need to get expunged off your record.

Will a very thorough background check required for financial services employment reveal an IRS garnishment?
Furthermore, when applying to FINRA (formerly NASD) for registration as a Financial Consultant, one has to fill out a U4 and various other forms, do any of the forms ask about garnishments either directly or indirectly?

As the author of the job search book “Think Like an Interviewer: Your Job Hunting Guide to Success,” and someone who used to work as a sales assistant & stockbroker, let me answer your question.

Yes, the garnishment would appear. And the reason is because an employer would need to be informed that they would have to withhold part of your wages prior to giving you your remaining amount. In other words, the employer takes out the garnishment amount first. Then pays you what’s left.

Now of course, this assumes the garnishment is current and still in force. If the garnishment was something that happened in the past and no longer applies, then it may still appear on there depending upon how far back it was satisfied. But the important thing is whether that garnishment is current and active! If so, then withholding of pay has to be done in repayment of your tax bill.

As you can see from what the U4 asks of you, the government often runs a more extensive background check than private employers. So because your licensing is government-issued, they do a more detailed background check.
