Is it legal for background check companies, specifically USIS to report pre-employment health screening info?
I failed a pre-employment drug screening at one time and I am worried that USIS (the company doing my background screening for my new job) will be able to communicate this information to my new potential employer. Is this health info not confidential? On USIS website they say that they compile virtual “file cabinets” on pre-employment drug screening results. Please offer some insight as to what I can expect. Thank you !!

How can avoid pre employment screening/background checks? Are there specific industries less likely to check?
I’m finishing my bachelor’s degree in Political Science, which leaves my job search open ended. I am worried about graduation because of two things:
    1. In effort not to divulge too much information, I’ll just say I have a condition that a background check would surely reveal. It would definitely bar me from employment and is not a status that is federally protected from discrimination.
    2. In remedying my condition, I’ve had to work for around the clock between two jobs to pay for medical treatment(not covered by insurance at all) which has driven my grades into the ground. Even though I’ll graduate, my transcripts aren’t anything to proudly display.

I don’t think I could ever hope to work for a selective organization but am wondering if there are any specific industries that tend to be lax in their employment practices. I’m feeling pretty hopeless and would consider anything.

Thanks if advance for any input.

When in doubt ask the experts , thats what i did. Yahoo or Google “Employment Screening” and pick one company out of the search and email them with your questions, you would be surprised at how much these people are willing to help you.

I did and it worked for me,

Try emailing these guys (I’m not sure if links work here)

What shows up depends upon what the company is asking for and willing to pay for. In most states, you will be asked to sign a release which will tell you exactly what they are asking for.

All kinds of things can show up: employment verification, how many times you’ve moved in the last 10 or so years, your criminal record, your driving record, verification of educational degrees, your financial information.

Again, what did you authorize release of, what were they willing to pay for.

I once had a woman claim to have a BS degree for a position that did not require a BS degree. Because she put it down, and because it was on our list of things to verify, she lost her job because she falsified an employment document. This is often why employers ask you to complete an application even if you have a resume. The application tells you that you will be terminated for falsification, and you sign that document.

That is why when someone doesn’t sign their application I immediately begin to wonder why.

I agreed to a pre-employment screening that involves a background check. What is going to show up.?
I was arrested (For possession of Marijuana w/ intent to distribute), but the case was dismissed due to lack of evidence and then the entire thing was expunged. (Ill Spare you the details but I was innocent)

Will this show up in the background check?

I am under the impression from both my lawyer, and the DA that because it was dismissed and then expunged, its as if it never happened, and the records do not exist.

It depends on where they look. In some places – just the name and birth date will give most of the information needed.

Whether it’s legal or not, you’ll never know what they came up with or who gave it to them. These background check companies are the lowest of the low, and I cannot believe they aren’t illegal. The release you have to sign authorizes them to interview your neighbors repeatedly, and allows them to check with anyone who ever knew you or might have heard of you. They are not required to tell you what information they came up with, but you can bet whatever it is it gets passed on to whoever else wants it.

So yes, if you failed a drug screening it probably will come up on this check, unless the company doesn’t actually do the check. Some companies have you sign the release and only do the check if they want to get rid of you later.

    It’s all a huge mess, isn’t it?

Criminal record, Your Debt record, Your health record… and employment record are the four main things they will study. Dont worry about dismissed allegations..they are not allowed to consider them..and if they give it as reason for not employing you, sue them.
