I’m from the UK & I’m living in the US now, I want to work as a nanny & require a background check. How do I..?
All the companies I look at ask that the organization apply not the individual. I want to start looking for work as a nanny but find it difficult as I do not have a background check, which is a must for this work. Why can’t I apply myself? Please help!

What is the best way to get a background check done for a nanny/babysitter without using an agency?
We have found someone to care for our children after school for 3 hours a day. We want to do a background check and anything else necessary. How would we go about it? We purposely aren’t using an agency so we can avoid paying agency fees.

I have not specifically run a background check for a nanny but I have spent the last 8 months researching and testing background checks for a consumer review site (http://www.CompleteReviews.net ) and I know that the services recommended on this site have been used by many parents wishing to protect their children. There are 3 sites that made our list of best online background check services and I have extensively tested each of them. I would recommend you start by reading the reviews at http://www.CompleteReviews.net/backgroundchecks.html
As for your other questions. You do not need the permission of the potential nanny to run a background check on them. They will actually never know you did any investigation unless you tell them. As for information you will need… the more you have the easier it will be to find them. Once they are located in the system, all the information will be available no matter what info you start with. I know that most people have an application form they use to gather information. This could include their full name, address and phone number (cell and home). You should also make a note of what you think their approximate age is (not sure if it is okay to ask that one on a form).
When you run the background check, you enter the above information into the search and it will return a number of potential hits (this is where knowing their age is helpful). You should be able to pick them from the list and then you run the report which has all the major information you need.
You are wise to run a background search on any nanny that you hire, because she will be in charge of the most valuable thing you have, your children. Making a mistake on the wrong nanny can be catastrophic for your family.

Has anyone conducted a criminal background check before hiring a full time babysitter or nanny?
What background check service did you use? Did you use (or create) a formal document stating that you had permission to conduct the background check (i.e. similar to what a caregiver might have to fill out in order to be hired at a day care center or nursing home)? What information did you ask for in order to run the check?
Thanks!

How does a nanny run a background check on parents/family?
How does a nanny run a background check on parents/family?
I am talking to some people about an afternoon nanny job…. It seems like it is coming together… They want to run a through background check on me, which is not a problem for me….. How can I, as a nanny protect myself, with this family that I have just met? They haven’t told me where they both work, even though I have brought it up and casually inquired… I am a single mom – and I have done babysitting – but not worked as a nanny for someone else before. Thanks for input and info
