How do I get my recalcitrant ex-wife to allow me to see my son? Can anyone introduce me to a family lawyer?
Some years ago, I broke the law and was incarcerated (not drugs, sexual or violence related). I have served my time, and currently work full time in a managerial position. I have the support of my loving parents and siblings. My nephews and niece adores me, and I adores them. Although they are about my son’s age, it’s still do not relieve the emptiness in my heart for how much I misses my son. I have tried various intermediaries to contact with my ex-wife, to see my son, but she completely ignores them. My next stage is to use the service of a family lawyer in Melbourne. Can anyone out there please advise me on how best to deal with this situation??

Calling all lawyers!?
Okay so I am only 15 but have a strong passion for justice and the law. The career path I want to follow is somewhere in Law. So here are my questions.
First I want to know what type of lawyer you are and if you like it.
If you don’t like it what would you rather be?
How did you go in year 12? Are you a naturally smart person or did you try your hardest and eventually make it in?
What law school would you recommend? Victoria preferably but if you think that an interstate one is definitely better please let me know.
At the law firm you are at is it family friendly?
And the last question and probably the most important.
CALLING ALL MELBOURNE LAWYERS – I am doing work experience next year and think it would be perfect for me to do it at a Law firm.
If your law firm or some one you know would be interested please leave an email for me to contact.
If you cant answer all of these questions thats fine, even answering one would be a great help!
Thanks in advance!

Good luck in your career. I’m not a lawyer, but just wanted to add that Law Course at Melbourne Uni is probably the best for your career. Notice I didn’t say the best. Namely because employers don’t have time to care which course is the best, they just look at the name of the uni and think ‘Cool Melbourne Uni’ – s/he must be smart.
Once you do become a lawyer try hard not to be an idiot. The law industry is full of people who think they are good because they’ve done law. In reality they are among the stupidest people I’ve ever met. No common sense what so ever. Which is probably reflected in our laws.

You need an attorney. You can also call Legal Aid in your area. Obviously, your ex-wife has her reasons and is not going to budge. You stated you have been to several mediators. If your wife is doing this within the bounds of the law to protect your son, then possibly the court will allow supervised visitations depending on the age of your son, etc. Anything decided will be based on the welfare of your son.

I think a lawyer would give you a better chance of winning custody. So I would definitely get one. Good Luck
PS Love your accent. : )

My friend, you have more money than sense! I don’t know the details of the case, but I’ve spent the last 8 years dealing with the Family Law Court and a myriad of family law solicitors in Brisbane and Newcastle. Send me the details of the case and I can refer you to someone. Forget the $5k bit will you! Just makes you seem like a criminal.

Lawyers are required anywhere, you’ll be fine with that.
But with Law, once you’ve done all your training your career is stuck in that country.
My girlfriend trained in Law in England and now, I want to move to Australia or New Zealand and she can’t, she would have to retrain for six years…
