How do you hold family law lawyers accoutable for overbilling?
I’m still in high school and trying to understand all this. step dad is trying to keep my mom from getting money from our old house which she bought and made morgage payments on that we moved out of. He refuses to move or sell it yet is still there after a year and a half while also trying to get spousal support (hes a lazy sleazebag out of work). The lawyers are stalling after realizing there is not much money involved and constantly cancelling deposition dates, and billing rediculous things. How can we get them to move things along? Can we force them to do anything? Please help I want to go to an Ivy for college and see family in Europe which is very expensive.

Does anyone know any good Family Law Lawyers in the Dallas, TX and surrounding areas?
I need some legal advice about custody and child support. We have a 2 and half yr old and have been apart for 2 yrs (never married) and up until recently have been able to work things out outside of court. BUT he has a new girlfriend who seems to be calling the shots now and I want to make sure my child and I are protected. Any recommendations on a GOOD, SMART, lawyer? Thanks!

You bet! You’ll find plenty of options here: http://www.localtexasattorneys.com/Category/Custody-and-Support/ It’s always a good idea to seek some legal advice. You can simply ask for a consultation to discuss your situation and then determine if whom you’re speaking with would be a good choice in handling your case.

I think you’re making a good decision on making sure both you and your child are protected by any possible surprises that may arise. It’s better to have been prepared than blind sided.

    Best wishes to you!

There is no way to hold them accountable. They are greedy scumbags that make money on people’s grief. The only way to deal with them is to get rid of their worthless a*sses. In your particular situation, there is nothing that your mom can’t do herself without the lawyer’s help. She really needs to get rid of them, set the court date, get the house back, and deny him the spousal support. The judge will be on her side, she has nothing to worry about.

Are Family Law Lawyers able to take on Pro Bono cases in the state of New Jersey?
If so, what do I have to do in order to get help?

Any attorney is allowed to take on any case for free.

You have to find an attorney willing to help you for free. It’s very difficult to find a pro bono family law attorney. There are simply SO many people who want/need free legal representation.

You can contact your state’s bar association, and your county’s bar association. It would be a complete waste of time to simply begin contacting random attorneys to ask them if they will take your case for free. Your best bet is to get a referral through an agency.
