Bullying death of 15 yo, feloney charges against classmates and statutory rape against 17 year old boyfriend?
    http://www.slate.com/id/2249307/?GT1=38001
I just read about the sad case of a 15-year-old Massachusetts girl who comitted sucide after being bullied by her classmates. Now, criminal charges have been filed against a number of people.
    Two question
    1. You know, bullying has been going on for many, MANY years. Back in the days I have been bullied and I have bullied other (not that I am proud of that in any way now.) I got a detention for it a couple of times. Now I am a practicing physcian. Should’ve I bveen charged with a feloney for it? Look what these kids did to that poor girl is certainly not right, but to have them charged with “felonies” or even charged at all is ludicrous. They do need a detention/suspension (they should NOT be explelled, they need the education) and they also need counseling, but DO NOT TERM THEM INTO CRIMINALS, they are still young teens. Have them undergo counseling, make sure they get help for their problems, but THROUGH OUT THE CHARGES!!
    2. Her 17 year old boyfriend has been indicted by the DA for feloney statuoty rape because she was 15. What the hell is wrong with this DA? is he totally psychotic? In most States, a 15 year old can legally have sex with a 17 year old due to close in age exemption. Even if there are no close in age exemptions in the state of MA, please, it was a TWO YEAR DIFFERENCE, they are in the same school, let this poor boy go, he did nothing wrong!! If it was a 30 year old, that would be a different storey of course. I would dare to ask that DA if he ever had sex when he was younger, then ask him how would he like a feloney charge for it.
    What are your opinions?
First, I am a physcian I do not care if you believe it or not.
Secondly, ther was ONLY A TRWO YEAR AGE DIFFERENCE, you would prosecute that? are you retarded?

You can go to jail for a criminal charge,
for a civil “tort” you go to a civil court and are usually sued for damages, which can be money.

Whats the difference between a civil charge and a criminal charge?
Whats the difference between a civil charge and a criminal charge for this offence and the consequences:

    Charges and penalties:

-Having an IM (ex. msn)account token away from the bully
-Juvenile delinquency (if the child is underage. If not, prison)
    -Closing down the sites
-Parents (scariest charge yet… Kidding, love you Mom)
    -criminal charges
    -cyber harassment charge

This girl wasn’t charged with a crime. Her parents and School Officials ALREADY KNEW about the pictures and she wasn’t in trouble for it.
The adults already knew BEFORE she killed herself, so I’m not understanding your question.

If I answer your original question without the unrelated additional information, I would say it depends on the situation.
If a child is distributing pics of SOMEONE ELSE, then yes, prosecute them for child pornography.

If it is a child distributing pics of THEM SELF, then no, the charge wouldn’t make legal sense.

H*ll YES! Punish the punks, not the patriots who were invited to speak! Those punks need to learn this is not acceptable behavior for US citizens who disagree with someone and their actions should punished and the marks stay with them the rest of their lives… who knows what they will destroy next, our nation? Heathen civil disobedience is not patriotic in any way, nor is it fashionable, glorious or respected!

Should we really be threatening children with criminal charges for taking pictures of themselves?
wouldn’t children being bullied for a stupid mistake be more likely to go to an adult for help if they did not have to be worried about being turned in or labelled a sex offender for life just for a picture they sent of THEMSELVES on a phone? it’s not like she took a picture of someone else, just herself. it’s her body!

    http://www.cnn.com/2010/LIVING/10/07/hope.witsells.story/index.html
the reason i ask is because the girl in the article killed herself. i agree texting nude photos is not very bright, but is bringing a 13 year old to justice worth children killing themselves?
sorry i didn’t cite the best example, but the fact that she was shamed by the adults for the one picture kept her from going to them for help over the bullying and when she did, it was too little help too late

it’s not like she was having sex and leaving babies in dumpsters. it was a picture of her own body. our hang up on clothes drove her to hang herself

Do U think the students should face criminal charges those who damaged property & those who refuse to disperse?
CHAPEL HILL – Investigators are determining whether charges are warranted after a raucous student protest broke up a controversial speaking appearance this week by a former Republican presidential candidate, Tom Tancredo, the UNC chancellor said.

Chancellor Holden Thorp sent an e-mail to students and faculty members saying that an investigation might result in criminal charges or campus honor-court charges against students. “Our Division of Student Affairs is also investigating student involvement in the protest,” he wrote. “If that investigation determines sufficient evidence, participating students could face Honor Court proceedings.”

Tancredo, known for his unwavering stance against illegal immigration, was invited by a student group to speak Tuesday about his opposition to granting in-state college tuition to illegal immigrants.

Protesters shouted profanities and unfurled banners as Tancredo, a former Colorado congressman, tried to speak to an audience in Brigham Hall. Police eventually stopped his speech and had to use pepper spray after demonstrators broke a window.

Thorp said that the university also will study what to do about controversial speakers in the future. “There’s a way to protest that respects free speech and allows people with opposing views to be heard,” he wrote. “Here that’s often meant that groups protesting a speaker have displayed signs or banners, silently expressing their opinions while the speaker had his or her say.”

Thorp and the president of the UNC system, Erskine Bowles, called Tancredo to apologize.

“He appreciates their apology,” Marcus Epstein, the executive director of Tancredo’s political-action committee, Team America PAC, said yesterday.

Epstein said that Tancredo hoped to be invited back and urged that the students responsible for the disruption be disciplined.http://www2.journalnow.com/content/2009/apr/17/unc-students-could-face-charges-over-speech-protes/

The people who disrupted Mr. Tancredo’s speech are bullies. The fact that they won the day and got national coverage will encourage similar behavior in the future. The only way to stop such nonsense and ensure everyone has their right to free speech defended is to shut such violent protests down on the spot, arrest those who damaged property and those who refuse to disperse. Yes, they have the right to disagree – civilly. Most of the problems in today’s society can be traced to one source: lack of respect – for self and for others. The administration at UNC showed their true colors in allowing the protesters to shut down the event; anything they do now is too little, too late; like closing the barn door after the horses are out. Just a guess, but if the roles were reversed, and those who organized the event were the protesters and vice versa, I bet there would be some protesters already expelled and sitting in jail – just a guess.

What criminal charges if any could this mother face?
I live in an apartment complex and for the most part everyone is nice except for a few bad apples. Last night our neighbor was telling how these kids who also live here had broken her son’s collar bone. He only just turned 8 and these other boys are a little older like 9 or 10. Anyways they had repeatedly lifted him up off the ground and slammed in down onto the concrete. They were not rough housing, they are the so called neighborhood bullies. While all this was going on their mother just sat there and watched the whole thing, she never tried to stop them. By letting this to go on and allowing her son’s to hurt this kid in the manner they did can she face any charges?

BTW, I live in New York state if that helps any.

    Thank you.
