The only thing they are allowed to verify is when you worked and where you worked. They can’t ask anything else. Not even if you are eligible for rehire.

What time of Information does the IRS check during employment background checks? How deep do they dig?
They are using the OPM for the background check? I was required to give employment infomation from 7 yrs back. My employment history is not perfect!

Question about employment background checks?
My friend just got a job and she’s waiting for her background check to go through. She is an immigrant and just got her working social security a few months ago, but she had been working previously before at 3 different jobs with a dummy social security number that I guess her other employers never did a background check on! Won’t the background check show all employment history? So if they run the employment check and see no employment history will she not get the job?
I think it’s unfair too, I think she was using a family member’s SSN. She had pretty good jobs and references too, which is why I’m wondering if she’ll still get the job after her background check goes through.

The only past history i can assume it would be is ETOH (Alcohol) withdrawal. However i don’t see why that should be or would be in a background check. It would be in a medical record and is common with mental health patients.
Can you show how it is worded and i will check back? For right now i am clueless as to what it could be.

generally NO
there are a few service providers that check work references but most don’t. a lot depends on how much the employer is willing to spend on a pre-employment check. these checks are covered by all the same laws as credit checks. Fair Credit Reporting Act
a background check consist of information found in public records that involve criminal, judgments, workers comp settlements, licenses and certifications etcetera. they use your name, aliases, address, former addresses, social security number, drivers license/state ID and birth date to locate information.
a reference check uses employers and personal references that you provide to check character, work habits, employment verification and job performance. generally the reference check is done by the prospective employer.

It shouldn’t. A charge is not a conviction.
