The only thing they are allowed to verify is when you worked and where you worked. They can’t ask anything else. Not even if you are eligible for rehire.

What time of Information does the IRS check during employment background checks? How deep do they dig?
They are using the OPM for the background check? I was required to give employment infomation from 7 yrs back. My employment history is not perfect!

What criminal history information is available if the Target Corporation ran a background employment check?
I know there are federal and state laws governing this issue. I’m wondering exactly what information is disclosed during a background check. I’m asking because I was a former police officer who got charged with two felonies and two misdemeanors (domestic incident) a month ago. The charges are false and are being fought with an attorney. Don’t wanna go into too many details, but all charges will be dropped in the end. The victim doesn’t want to testify, and never did. No victim, no case. Anyways, I know that if I applied to be another police officer or work for a Police Agency, they can run a special background check that will show the arrest, but if a private corporation say Walmart, or Target were to run my background for an employment check, only Felony Convictions would show up right? Or would the arrest show up as well? I know the application only says to list convictions, so im not listing anything. I just really want this job!! Pays very well with good benefits! Anyone?

If you were charged but the case was not pursued due to no witness/victim testimony then you are just waiting to get the charges dropped. I would have to say that when the charges are dropped you won’t have anything to worry about.
The background checks that a good amount of large corporations have access to are pretty in depth. The background company I use at work on a daily basis is able to pick up cases previous applicants were charged with 10 years ago but again they were charged.
I can’t say for sure not knowing what district/state/county your issue happened in but knowing first hand that background screen companies have gotten better in obtaining their information especially since 9/11.

If they do an employment verification, the job will show up on you paid taxes. If they do a reference check from that job, they will get only the information that the company is willing to give them – which may be nothing. If they ask if you are eligible for rehire, the pizza restaurant may tell them that you are not, which is an indication that you were fired. If this is important to the fortune 500 company, it could be a problem. Honestly though, there is no reason to put a job on your resume that you had for a month, unless you want to be evaluated on it.

This depends on the kind of background check that they do. If the company is really serious about who they hire, they will do a thorough background investigation which includes interviewing people that know you. If they aren’t so serious, they may just get a criminal history check from the local PD and a credit check.
This can be a good way to guage how good of a company they are too. If they just breeze through the background then they may not be too picky on who they hire. This creates problems due to unscrupulous people that get hired and then commit crimes because of their position. When they get found out it puts a bad light on the company and anyone else that worked there.
Why would you care? Well, if you didn’t work there anymore and applied for a job elsewhere and had to put the “bad” company on your work history, how do you think it would look?
My agency will take up to a month to complete a background check on an applicant for hire. I suspect there are places that take even longer.

Do car dealers perform an employment background check?
Does anyone know or have past experience. Do car dealers typically perform a background check for employment?
I mean when applying to work for a car dealer. Not about buying a car. Thanks for all your help though

How long does it take to run a background check for employment?
i applied to a job as a security guard with allied barton in person. I talked to the people there and they said Monday they’d start reviewing the applications (Today). How long does it take to run a background check before they’d call to set up an interview if i were to get that far? or would they not do one until i was given an interview? On the application it stated i gave consent for them to check my background for employment purposes.

Car salesmen in California and Kentucky at least have to be licensed by the state, which presumably checks its database first, otherwise no. Car dealers only care if a car salesman can convince a prospect to make a signed offer to purchase a car. Then it’s up to management to close the deal.

I was terminated from a job earlier this year…will it show up on a background check/employment history?
I am interviewing with a Fortune 500 company. I did pizza delivery for about a month back in May and I was terminated due to an altercation with a co-worker.
If they run a background check will that show up? Now I know they give you a form to list your previous employment, would it show up on there? Could I just leave the job off the form?
