Bad Sydney areas are usually way out south west such as Cabramatta or around Campbeltown. Inner city areas such as Redfern can also be dodgy. It’s best to apply the rule – don’t go walking around at night and you will be OK.
For rent try http://www.domain.com.au and look up an area
The train line is good but gets packed around peak hours – that is 7.30am to 9.30am and 5.00pm – 6.30pm. Buses are better, but slower.
For jobs it depends on your area of expertise. The city obviously has the most jobs, however industrial areas such as around Alexandria and Homebush are also good.
General culture is divided into areas. Basically there is the North Shore and Northern Beaches which are north of the harbour bridge. These are the wealthy areas. The Eastern Suburbs is also wealthy. Then there is the Inner West which is a cultural mix, and the outer Western Suburbs which is also a cultural mix and a bit cheaper to live in. The Southern suburbs are very white anglo – stay away from here if you want to fit in, and the Hills district is a melting pot of wealthier immigrants.
Houses in Sydney are expensive, however you are more likely to get a job here than in other capital cities where the houses are cheaper.

Why on earth do you need an immigration lawyer? In Australia there is virtually nothing they can do for you that you couldn’t do for yourself as our requirements and rules are very clear cut and easy to understand. Save your money and handle your own immigration affairs unless yours is some kind of incredibly complex and unusual case.

You do not need an immigration lawyer to get your partner and baby to Australia from the Philippines.
Australia’s immigration rules are very straightforward, simple and inflexible and a lawyer will cost you a fortune and will not give you the slightest additional chance of getting a visa for them. There is NOTHING a lawyer can do that will get you a visa that you couldn’t get by your own efforts – your partner either qualifies or she doesn’t and that’s the end of the story. If her visa is refused, there is a case for getting a lawyer to lodge your appeal if you genuinely believe the decision was wrong in law and outside the immigration regulations, but before then, a lawyer will actually make it more difficult and everything will certainly cost much more and take much longer.
