Nowadays, your personal computer could behave much more like an entertainment device than ever before. You can view online video, listen to music, see images and even more!

But who wants to sit in their office at home on a desktop computer or sit at a portable computers to do this? Playing through cheap pc speakers and watching video on a pc monitor is not my idea of true enjoyment; how about you?

Why not connect your personal computer's video and audio to your residence entertainment system? You can view TV shows, films, and videos on your own High definition or any other Tv set with proper inputs. It is possible to listen to music through your home music system if it has AUX, VIDEO, or any other input using a standard RCA connection.

Connecting Laptop or computer Video to Your Tv set:

To connect the video, your computer needs to have an output for which your TV contains a matching input.

Nearly every Laptop or computer comes with a VGA output of some kind. The plug for this looks almost rectangle-shaped (you can see 1 by locating where you Laptop or computer monitor connects to the back end of your pc).

An additional video output connection many computers may have is S-Video. This is a round connection. S-Video plugs have 4 very small round holes (two on either side) and a tiny rectangle-shaped hole in the bottom. S-Video wires have a round end with 4 tiny metal prongs and a tiny rectangle-shaped piece of plastic at the bottom.

Nevertheless, many televisions do not have VGA inputs and only some have S-Video inputs. If yours does not, you will need to make sure it at least has an RCA video input (this is a very standard connection which is used for connecting record players, VCRs and Disc players with other gadgets). If your TV came out since the early to mid 1990's it probably has a standard RCA video input.

If your TV comes with a RCA video input, merely obtain a VGA to TV Converter. This will hook up to your personal computer's VGA output and provide RCA and S-Video connections (which usually are standard inputs found on most TVs since the 1990's).

Make sure you have the proper cables for your TV. Based on which type of input your TV uses, you will need an RCA cable, an S-Video cable or a VGA cable.

Connecting Computer Sound to Your TV, Stereo or Home entertainment system:

Now that the hard part is out of the way, the sound is straightforward. Simply obtain a Y-cord. It will have a stereo male 1/8" on 1 end and two RCA males on the other end. Just ask any nearby consumer electronics store; this is a standard cable they will all most-likely hold in-stock.

Connect the stereo system 1/8" male end to the green jack on your computer (usually on the back of desktop computers and on the front or side of laptop computers) where your speakers would normally connect.

Alternatively, you may connect the 1/8" to the earphone jack on your computer. (Note: any device with a earphone jack can link to your home theater, such as an ipod} using this same cord!)

Connect the two RCA males to the L and R input jacks on your Television, Home Theater or Stereo. you might be|And you are|And you're simply} done! Just make sure to pick the right setting (AUX, VIDEO, etc.) on your stereo or receiver.

Enjoy online content in all the glory you have enjoyed content from TV, DVD, CD, and the radio! There's already numerous online content on major broadcasting sites, and there will be more as the future moves forward.

If you do not have a DVD player but there is a DVD drive on your computer, this specific setup will turn your computer into a DVD player! Once connected, call the store from whom you bought your Laptop or computer and ask how to play a DVD on the personal computer.
