Getting Rid Of Bed Bugs

How To Kill Bed Bugs – Is Getting Rid Of Bed Bugs Easy?
Author: Paul Johnson
As a child, you surely must have heard the age old saying "Sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite". However, I bet you didn't really put much thought into what bed bugs really are. All their vicious reputation aside, bed bugs are little insects that can be very unpleasant to have in your bedroom.
If you want to learn how to kill bed bugs at home, you will have to put away almost every piece of cleaning equipment you are used to. Usually, dry cleaning or heat will help you in getting rid of bed bugs naturally, but this is not an absolute guarantee and it isn't a very fast approach either. This is mainly because these insects are usually transmitted through clothes, luggage and even moving boxes. Bedbugs can live up to as much as one year even if they don't have a feeding host.
There are ways of killing them naturally, but probably the best way is to use steam cleaning. This is how a professional exterminator should conduct the operation since heat always kills bed bugs. Other methods include using chemical products. A spray is usually the weapon of choice and you should purchase one if you want to save money and clean the house yourself. Just make sure that you check everything in your bedroom thoroughly in order to completely eliminate them, including your pillow, your bed mattress and so on. These little pests can also hide in the smallest of cracks.
Once the extermination is done, make sure that you don't get bed bugs ever again. And be careful, because even a one night's sleep at a hotel can contaminate you with bed bugs all over again. Also, if you buy used furniture, make sure that there is no sign of a bed bug contamination.

Bed bugs are evil evil little creatures and are virtually impossible to get rid of–praticularly if you live in an apartment complex: because EVERYBODY around you needs to be aggressively treating for them.
It helps but it’s not a magic bullet. Try getting those bags that people move mattresses in….spraying the mattress while it’s inside the bag and taping it shut. Professional exterminators are usually the best way to go.

Check around for a procedure called Cryonite, it is claimed to freeze out bed bugs with a carbon dioxide white snow.
Here are the claims of the makers of Cryonite:
Can penetrate into deep cracks a crevices, baseboards, furniture etc.
Kills adults, larvae, and eggs on contact.
Leaves no toxic residue.
Treated area can be inhabited immediately after treatment
Talk to some people that have had the service and find out it it worked. If it works sounds like a safe non-toxic way to rid yourself of the bugs

The chemicals they use are indeed toxic, but no less toxic than say the ones you can buy at the store in a can if used properly. When i had my hotel treated, we of course, made everyone check out for 2 days. As long as you cannot smell the chemicals, it is ok.
These chemicals that are being applied, must be approved by the Food and Drug Administration of whatever country you are in, presuming you don’t live in Uganda or someplace like that. I live in a developing country, and for LEGAL authorized application of these chemicals, the ones they use must be approved by the FDA and if they are cancer causing agents or can cause harm to humans, they people performing the application MUST tell you specific guidelines for how the house should be handled after application.
I have used Maxxthor, Pyrethene, and some really long word that begins with an “S’… they smelled quite strong, but after one day i was able to reside in the hotel (as a test subject) and for all the chemicals other than Pyrethene, i was able to reside in the hotel just a few hours later. This is probably due to the fact that the chemical itself is mixed, normallly, with 80-90% water.
I suppose you may be ultra-sensitive to chemicals, but the person applying them has a Material Safety Data Sheet for each chemical they are applying, which will contain the information you need regarding how long it takes for the area to be safe.
One thing you should be sure of (completely unrelated to the odors) is that you get a guarantee, because i naively assumed that the exterminator knew what he was doing, the chemicals didn’t work, and i simply threw away money. Get the guarantee.
Hope this helps, even though it was quite long!

This website from the University of California, Davis, has some ideas on how to control them. They do suggest a professional if it gets out of hand. If you do go for a professional, do not hesitate to see if they are licensed and to see how aware they are of “integrated pest management” which is a rather generic term for using pesticides only as a last resort and using management methods instead.

Note that these are meant for Californians, but will work other places as well. Good luck

Can I rid bed bugs without a professional?
Can I get rid of bed bugs on my own? Called on a prof. and got a quote of $900, too much for me to afford! I don’t want to notify my landlord since it was probably my fault for bringing in a chair from the street.

Getting rid of bed bugs?
I just woke up with little bugs crawling on me. I used What’sThatBug.com to identify them as bed bugs. I am terrified of little bugs that I can’t see at all times, such as bed bugs. I am fine with larger bugs and animals, large spiders, mice, etc. but I aboslutely hate bugs like these.
Could I hire a professional to kill them for me? How much would it cost?

Getting rid of bed bugs with chemicals?
I have bed bugs for quite some time in my house. I tried to kill them by buying a chemical spray myself but it did not work. I called a specialized company to do the treatment. However the chemicals they use are very strong and much stronger than the chemicals that we can find in a store. This was the only solution I had as I have suffured a long time but I am very worried that the chemicals are very toxic for my health. Please, somebody who had a professional treatment, can you let me know if indeed I am in danger?
