Fantasy Football Tips

Author: isaac remponi

The most important thing in your fantasy football league is the draft. If you don't pick your players carefully, you have a very little chance of winning. However, if you draft with perfection, you will have a better chance of winning. It depends on whether you draft the player with the best value or the player at the position you need.  For example, you have 1 RB and 4 WR on the team so far. You see that the great WR is available but the truth is, he would be no help to your team because the you will only need 3WR to start. You could get the WR just in case of injury or you could trade the player.

Here are my five proven fantasy football tips:

1) Never miss the draft because if you do, the computer will be the one who will picks your players based on their predetermined rankings. This means you opponents can predict your picks which is a big advantage to them. When drafting in fantasy football, the first key thing to know is what your line-up looks like in the league. Many leagues offer flex positions that can be both a wide receiver or a running back, but some don't, and this can have a huge effect when it comes down to draft day. So take note of what your line-up offers and try and draft a team that reflects the positions that your league gives priority to.

2) Be active. If you don't make trades, you can never get the balance you will need at midseason.

3) Look at the scoring system of the league. What position does it favor? Default setting are usually 50 pass yard = 1 point, 20 rush or receiving = 1 points, and touchdowns worth 6 points. This favors running backs and is a disadvantage to quarterbacks. However other settings could favor QBs. So this means you don't draft players the same way for every league.

4) Make sure you have a quality bench. When you have weeks with a lot of players with bye weeks, then you'll probably lose if you don't have a quality bench. If you have a bench to plug in you'll rack up some important wins.

5) Never give up even if you're in last place after a few weeks, some wins can get you back in the race. Regular seasons don't normally matter. Making the playoffs in the last position is basically the same as making the payoffs in the first place. A standard league has 10-12 teams with the top 4-6 qualifying playoffs.

These fantasy football tips will not guarantee your wins but they will help. Team these up with the stats and information available at www.fantasyfactor.com and you will be sure to have a successful fantasy season.

    Sam,

The key to doing well is being prepared and creating accurate fantasy football cheat sheets. There are a million strategies to choose from, but there are some basic rules that you should follow, specifically “Pre-Draft Preparation, “Draft Day Diligence”, and “Post Draft Verification”.

I created an article last year explaining some simple steps to follow when preparing for a draft. On my site you can also create your own fantasy football cheat sheets using drag and drop, for free.

It’s fun! I’ve been playing for 9 years!

Main things to remember: You cannot have too many RBs, especially now that so many are sharing carries. So try to take them in the first 2 rounds. Normally, I’d then pick a WR in the third round but this is an odd year for QBs. If one of the top group is left (Brees, Brady, Manning) I’d be tempted to grab him. I think there’s a dropoff after that. If they’re gone, go after a WR.

Then look at what’s left at RB for your 4th pick. If there are any guys left (and in many drafts there will be) who are starters, guys like Ray Rice, Thomas Jones, Cedric Benson, I would take them and then grab a QB/WR in 5th round.

In most leagues, QBs are not scored as high as they should be. If yours allows 6 points for passing TDs, then you could probably justify taking one of those top 3 in the 3rd round. But if not, it just won’t make that much difference.

Your last picks should generally be TE, DEF, K. If Witten or Gates is available in round 5, a case could be made to grab him, but overall there will startable ones left.

And never pick b/u TE, DEF, K. Unless your league is really big, there will still be depth guys at QB, RB and WR and stick with those. No one knows who the top DEF will be at this point and with K it’s anyone’s guess. They matter, but sometimes you’re better off making substitutions and grabbing FAs on a weekly basis rather than assuming one will dominate all season.

Draft a kicker with a late bye week (week 8 or later). By the time you need to replace him for that week a bunch of other kickers will be cut by the other owners who had early bye weeks.

Also, don’t pick a kicker until the last round. There’s not a huge difference between #1 and #12.

Avoid rookie WR but not rookie RB. Rookie WR usually don’t do to well but there’s some good rookie RB’s out there. (McFadden, Felix Jones, R. Mendenhall, Steve Slaton, Ray Rice, Jonathan Stewart, Chris Johnson and Matt Forte would all be a good late RB pick)

If you are willing to pay a little money than the site for you is fantasyguru.com. I used this last year and I won two leagues and placed second in another. And it doesn’t stop when the season stops. It has updates throughout the year, cheat sheets for keeper and regular leagues, blogs, newpapers links for all major newspapers, weekly projections, etc. I would definitely check it out if I were you.

Where can someone find updates/tips for fantasy football throughout the year?
I usually subscribe to the NFL’s Fantasy Football Extra that gives me week by week update on players, mock drafts leading into the season, and cheat sheets/rankings of players.

I have heard of KFFL and others, but what do other people use?

What’s the best Fantasy Football website for tips?
I’m not asking to host a league. I currently use Fantasy Guru and want to know if anyone thinks there’s a better site for weekly Fantasy Football help, tips, roster picker, etc.
