Understanding Fantasy Football Stats

Author: Onesimus Smith

Fantasy Football is a game played by football fans in which participants draft their own team and compete with teams built by others. Scoring systems vary among fantasy football leagues, but most are based on points accumulated by players based on their real-life performance in a game on the same day.

Before making your own fantasy football pick, try to look and research for fantasy football stats first. Doing so can help you obtain a perfect team. Don't make your fantasy football picks without the stats, reports, and season projections you need to make wise choices.

Playing fantasy football gives you the chance to be like a football coach and take control of your very own team. You pick the players, balance the imaginary budget and make transfers in the quest for glory and some fantastic prizes. Unlike a simulated football management game the players you select will score points based on what they do in real-life matches. The team that gains the most points over the course of the season will top the overall standings.

Fantasy football stats will help you come up with a strong team by analyzing them carefully. The internet is a huge library of information. With more and more websites about fantasy football online every day, you are sure to find many fantasy football stats and strategies. Be good at comparison and carefully analyze these fantasy football stats and you will surely increase you chances of winning your fantasy league.

Don't forget to update your lineup every week. One of the worst things you can do is to forget to update your lineup for the upcoming week. You could have an injured player in your lineup, or suppose your starting quarterback is on a bye week. Being short just one player can cost you a game, and that one loss could be the difference between making or missing the playoffs. Always make sure to check the fantasy football stats as often as you can. Check out www.fantasyfactor.com where you can try out their state of the art software and amazing one day fantasy leagues for Fantasy football, Fantasy Baseball, and many other fantasy sports.

I’m not sure if there is something out there that already does it, so I’ll answer based on the assumption that there is not.

My roommate made something like this in college I think. He did it in java. Basically what you have to do is make a connection to the webpage you want eg http://www.espn.com/nfl/stats/ . Then save that file and then go through and parse out the information you want. There may even be a webservice out there that you can get the stats in easy to read XML. Then you just create/modify an excel sheet using POI or something with the new stats. If you haven’t programmed in java before, then this is likely a pretty big project for you. I’d say it’d probably be more time effective to just keep doing what you’re doing

Hmm, not sure there’s something that exact. But I would try out Melgea – The Fantasy Sports Search Engine (http://www.melgea.com). It’s completely and utterly free. It’s got a Google Custom Search set up, so you only get search results that are fantasy sports specific, all at once. Basically, all of the other sites suggested here are searched all at once!

There’s a nifty feature that lets you quickly lookup player cards from the major fantasy sites (ESPN, Yahoo, CBS), as well as a local news search feature that combs the hometown newspapers of every single pro team in North America.

Finally, there’s a huge list of nearly 50 free rankings and cheat sheets to help you get ready for your fantasy draft.

And it works for fantasy baseball and basketball too.

    Good luck!

    Fantasy Football stats website?
I”m looking for a site that I’ve been to, but can’t seem to find again. It has fantasy football stats for more specific situations such as which DEF gives up most scores to TEs. It was linked on CBS about 2 weeks ago, but I can’t access THAT page either. Anyone have a link?

I need to make a bot to automate my Fantasy Football Stats recordings?
So I like to copy all of my Fantasy Football stats for my roster onto an excell sheet. The benefits are definitely worth it, trust me.

But recently, I’ve gotten tired of doing all of this manually, and was wondering what language would be the best to program a bot that would scour the interwebs and grab stats from lets say ESPN or Yahoo and export them to an Excell sheet format.

Basically, do you guys have any suggestions? Or even know of something that already does this.
