Fantasy Football Player Rankings for Beginners

Author: micheal tietjen

My girlfriend asked me about fantasy football player rankings and I decided to tell her a little about the drafting process. If you're just getting started in fantasy football or if you don't have the patience to explain to your mother why Sunday's game will make or break your line-up, this is a good reference.

In my league, we allow for one quarterback, two running backs, two wide receivers, one tight end, one kicker and one team defense. We also have five or six bench spots that participants use however they'd like. Some people use these slots for backups at each position in case their "starter" gets hurt, and others like to stock up on specific positions.

The main idea is to pick the players that, every week, you think will earn you the most points. Points are awarded for receptions, yards carried, touchdowns, field goals (for kickers) and completed passes (for quarterbacks). All of this is up to the commissioner, the appointed head of the league, to create, so points can be awarded differently.

This is the way it works: after the NFL games of the week, which typically fall on Sundays, Mondays or Thursdays, the team in the specific match-up who has the highest number of points wins. You can also trade players with other managers or pick up free agents (players not owned by anyone) to adjust your roster.

Where do I get this information about player rankings, match-ups and other relevant news? I found a website that gives me the most easy-to-access and complete registry of fantasy football player rankings information on the web.

If you want to get into the game or teach someone else about it, check out fantasyfootballchallenge.com.

    Interesting…

    Try CBSsportsline.com…

I heard they had something that did with College football and they could have what you are looking for.

    Good luck!!

ESPN.com and SportingNews.com work but the best site to use is below. It’s great, a wide variety of information.

I think Yahoo.com and SportsIllustrated.com might also have weekly projections I’m not sure.

That’s the best place I could find, if you click on the WR or RB you’ll see those who have a lot of receptions marked with a “PPR+” symbol next to their name.

Also, the only other thing I could say is go here, I know all it’s stats from the end of the 09 season, but just look at the players to had a lot of receptions and ask yourself these questions:

-Are they old or young, so will they still keep the same production?
-Are they on a team with a weak o-line, so will the QB be forced to dump the ball off/make a quick pass a lot?
-Is the QB consistent on that particular team?

I think RB’s are more consistent than WR’s, but that’s just my opinion. Usually you can definitely count on RB’s who rack up a lot of receiving yards from year to year.

    Hope that helps

    Go to NFL.com: http://www.nfl.com/fantasy/rankings

Their rankings are good. Running back is usually the most important. In my 8 man league, I used my first two picks on backs. After that, I go wide receiver, then quarterback. As long as you get a few decent quarterbacks, you can just play the one with the best matchup.

A lot of it depends on the size of your league and what draft position you have.

Does anyone know of a list of college football fantasy football player rankings for the 2007 – 08 BOWL season?
I am in a fantasy football league for this year’s bowl game season. You draft only players that are in this year’s bowl games. I’m wondering if anyone has compiled rankings similar to the rankings people do for NFL fantasy players. 1-30 top QB’s – 1-30 top RB’s 1-30 top WR’s etc – but just for college bowl games. Thanks for the help!

Which websites provide weekly fantasy football player rankings and/or point projections?
I’d like to use a wide variety of sites to decide who to start on my team each week.

Either a numerical ranking of players or an actual projected point total would be useful.

    Thanks!

How should I set my fantasy football pre-draft player rankings?
I want to edit my pre-draft player rankings for fantasy football, but I’m not sure which position is more important than the other. How should I rank each player according to position to get the best team possible?

Anyone know of a place to get PPR fantasy football player rankings for 2010?
I’m looking for something current, not done at the end of last season. I’m having trouble tracking down PPR rankings.
