Bed Bugs - Scabies - Mites ...

The Bed Bug spread is a common one

Author: Nadeeka Johnson

The Bed Bug spread is a common one, as these tiny insects are understood to have traveled from their place of origin in the Asian continent to the entire globe.

It is not unusual to find an infestation of Bed Bugs, but what is important is that we recognise where they live, how to find them and what to do about them.

The female Bed Bug will produce eggs each day; as she can exist for extraordinary lengths of time – over a year – this results in a natural explosion of the Bed Bug population.

The bed bug is active at night – when we are sleeping – and the first clue to the presence of Bed Bugs is the presence of bites on the skin in the morning.

The bed bug will feast during the night, and when it feeds on our blood it leaves behind indications of its presence.

A bed bug feeds by spearing the skin and feeding in a tube with which it pulls out the required blood, and hence the victim will rarely be aware they are being bitten as they are generally asleep.

After feeding – which could be as long as ten minutes – the Bed Bug leaves behind a red mark which could swell and will irritate continually, bringing irritation and discomfort to the patient.

The problem about diagnosis is that the indications of Bed Bugs are often similar to many other skin infections.

Scabies leaves behind very similar indications to bed bug infestation, and other insect bites such as mosquito can also leave behind a similar tell tale mark.

Bed bug bites will usually appear on skin that is exposed while we sleep – the arms and legs, face and neck are all commonly bitten – and it is to these areas we should turn when looking for indications of the creatures.

I’m not a lawyer and I don’t know the exact legal recourse (I do think you might have to prove the managers had prior knowledge), but I know you can file complaints. I would file one with the board of health in that state and locality (talk to everybody you can), and I would also file with the Better Business Bureau. You won’t necessarily receive any restitution ($) for your pain and trouble, but it will hopefully force the hotel to clean up their act. At least it will bring them negative publicity. Also, please do an online review so that people like myself see these comments when they do a google search and don’t book a room at this nasty place!

That doctor does not seem good! You could try consulting another doctor. Or you could buy the Scabies medicine. I don’t think I have heard anything about scabies bed bugs before, but there may be such things. If it is from bed bugs, leave it alone and don’t scratch. It may be rashes, if it is, you could buy Neoderm.

How can you decontaminate a mattress in a motel or hotel for bed bugs, scabies etc?
What legal action or recourse do you have if you stay at a motel and the managers know the mattresses are infested with bedbugs, etc and you are severely bitten?

Could I have scabies/bed bugs under my skin?
Ok, I’ve got this sensation going on under my skin and I’ve had it for the last few days. It’s not exactly an itch, but sort of…more like a sensation where it feels like someone plucked a hair and is poking my skin from the inside and outside of my leg, as well as the rest of my body. I think this MAY have happened from not putting bedsheets on my bed and sleeping on it skin-to-matress the last 4 days. But the thing is, I’ve got areas full of what looks like mosquito bites/scabies bites, but i’m not sure which ones they are because i’ve gotten mosquito bites the last few days. What should I do?

    Scabies and Bed bugs?
Okay, so this isn’t for me, this is for my fiance. He has just realized that what has been biting him this month has been bed bugs. Of course, Ive been searching throughout Google for answers, but I’m ending up here as a result to not knowing if anyone knew what we were talking about. I understand that Scabies and Bed Bugs are 2 different things, however he seems to have both to me. But I am not sure, I dont even know what the bites look like or anything (he lives in another state than me). Anyway, he has just gotten rid of ALL the furniture including the mattress he was sleeping on and the house seems a little more at peace for now…But of course, I told him they could still be on the carpet and other places as well…The apartment complex he lives in is known for having these kinds of infestations apparently, he went around a few homes to try and find out whose giving them to who, and a few people have mentioned it – including the neighbor upstairs from him. Anyway, what I want to know is if what hes feeling now is normal for people with Bed bug bites or if he also has scabies. He feels a sensation of bugs crawling on his one arm. He looked at pictures of scabies online, and it looks NOTHING Like his bites, he says his bites look more like bedbug bites. But yet he has the symptoms, so I’m not sure. I know that every case of bed bugs is very different from the next but maybe someone has the same story? I mean, if it is scabies, is there anything over the counter he could use? Or is this just a normal symptom from bed bug bites? Also, he wants me to ask, does anyone think that tapatio will help the itching/getting rid of them? Thank you so much!

Do I have bed bugs? scabies? allergic reaction?
I have had a rash that started approximately two months ago. It started on my lower legs and ankles then started working its way up my body. It did not show any bumps or red marks, just a persistent itch usually worst when I was in bed. I had recently switched my detergent to Arm and Hammer with Oxyclean. I read online that a lot of people have had reactions to the Oxyclean and I stopped using it immediately and bought Purex with no colors or fragrances added. I then rewashed all my clothes twice using half of the recommended amount of detergent. This didn’t help and the rash continued to worsen in the amount of itching for the next few weeks. I then scheduled an appointment with my doctor. I was prescribed Methylprednisolone to combat the inflamation and itching. I finished the 12 day cycle and the itching was worse than before. Within that last week small red bumps have formed in most of the itchy locations and just three days ago it has reached my scalp and “exploded” onto my forearms. I returned to my doctor and I have been put on cimetidine and a mite cream. I believe he has “diagnosed” me with scabies or similar mite infection.
It seems to get worse every morning which leads me to believe it is bed bugs. I set up co2 bed bug monitors tonight and will check them in the morning but I would like some feedback from those who have had a similar condition or are a dermatologist (local dermatologists are booked until January).
Here is a picture taken less than an hour ago of my forearm.
