Types of the pesticides & insecticides
In the market these days usually 3 types of pesticides & insecticides that are comprised of the herb extracts. These sell big and are used to control & eradicate bed bugs from our house:
a. Contact Insecticides
i. Well, this substance has its own long list.
ii. Most of the bed bugs pesticides are formed of several contact insecticides.
iii. These elements kill the pesticide only when they come in contact with the bed bugs.
iv. These are applied to the surfaces or areas where bed bugs are found or may be found like the wooden furniture, cuts & crevices in the bed, etc.
v. These are made of pyrethoids, that are formulated synthetically and / or from the natural extracts of the chrysanthemum flowers.
vi. These substances emit a certain smell that knocks out the bed bugs instantly.
vii. However, these substances also some times fail as the bed bugs develop the repelling properties and / or characteristics that can be used against the substance.
viii. Therefore, using contact insecticides does not necessarily imply to killing the bed bugs.
ix. They only prevent the bed bugs to come near the surface where ever pesticide is applied.
b. Insect Growth Regulators (IGR)
i. Another common element in the long list of the pesticides used to eliminate bed bugs from the house, this pesticide doesn't directly target the adults or the crawling bed bugs.
ii. This type of pesticide attacks the bed bugs on the basis of the principle that youngsters are rather more vulnerable.
iii. The IGRs affect & directly exterminate the eggs or the newly hatched bed bugs known as nymphs.
iv. The development of the eggs & young bed bugs gets hindered & stalled.
v. So no further generation of the bed bugs would then follow up next.
vi. The IGR application is a very slow process of eradicating bed bugs completely.
vii. Never the less they are quite effective.
viii. Undoubtedly one would have to wait and is sure to get good results.
c. Insecticidal Dusts
i. The insecticidal dusts are one that top the list as they can directly be applied and / or spayed to the bed bugs.
ii. This insecticide is comprised of and / or conveyed in to dusts that directly aims the crawling bed bugs.
iii. The insecticidal dusts are most potent as compared to all other pesticides on the list.
iv. This substance works as it ruins the outer waxy coats of the bed bugs and soon they dry out easily.
v. The pesticides generally are comprised of the fine granules of ground glass or silica powder in order to ensure efficiency.
vi. Another major fact about insecticidal dusts is that it is very harmful to the human beings as well.
vii. The insecticidal dusts are also applied to the crevices or cracks on the floor or the wall which are doubted to be infested with the bed bugs.

After 2 years, the bed bugs were most likely introduced to the home by you. This can happen through no fault of your own. Staying at an infected hotel/motel room or family/friends home could have been the cause. Heck..your kids could of taken them in on their clothing from one of their friends homes.
Most landlords do not legally have to cover the expenses after you’ve been there for a certain amount of time.
Check with your local building department or health department for specifics.

NO NO NO NO DO NOT buy a bed bug spray!!!
It is not going to work unless you spray directly on bed bugs.
Wash all your bedding items with HOT HOT water.
Use a steam cleaner on the mattress to kill live bed bugs.
Apply Bed Bug Powder from the site below.
Put the sheet back on the mattress.
We had the same issue as you are having. We tried sprays, foggers, bombs, and even professional exterminators.
And none of them worked, but bed bug came back after a few weeks.
But after using the powder, we don’t seem to get bitten at all. The powder is natural powder and is safe to humans and pets.
The price is also reasonable, and it is easy to use.
Good luck.

I highly doubt that Orkin provided them with commercial grade pest control, as you need a license to use it (and they would be legally negligent if they just handed the stuff out). God knows what they sprayed, but you need to press them on this issue. I’d also start looking for a new place to live, since this place you’re living seems to be a bit shady.

You can always get a quote from a different pest professional if that would make you feel more comfortable. I’m not sure where you live but that actually isn’t a bad price at all if your exterminator has experience with bed bugs and knows what he is doing. The fact that he mentioned using steam, sprays and dusting tells me he does.
Even though you only found a few bed bugs doesn’t meant that those are the only bed bugs you have. Bed bugs are very good at hiding. Have you checked the frame of your bed? Have you checked inside your box spring (behind the mesh)? Have you checked behind the outlet covers on your walls, checked picture frames, lamps and furniture near the bed? Not only are bed bugs small themselves, their eggs are positively tiny. Female bed bugs may lay the eggs in the most random spots. This makes them even harder to detect. If the extermination is not thorough, bed bugs will come back.
Washing, vacuuming and spraying on your own will only provide some control of your bed bugs situation. You can do the above and buy mattress and box spring encasements. It will help control any biting but it won’t address the underlying bed bug infestation.

Call a pest control company, I’ve read bed bugs can live for a long time w/o feeding and are very hard to kill. I don’t think any over-the-counter items harm them. I am sorry you are having this problem, the idea of bed bugs makes my skin crawl.

bed bugs forcing me to throw out artwork?
I have thirty years’ worth of art, writing and recent collections of art supplies crammed into my apartment. I understand that to get rid of bed bugs requires removal of hiding places they like, and they like paper. I don’t care about throwing out all my furniture and clothes. But I am rather chuffed about losing my life’s work. A lot of the writing was done b4 computers, it only exists ON PAPER. I am too busy and tired with my whirlwind cleaning and dragging things out to cry, (if I start I won’t stop) but at least I can tell all you guys…
Anybody else had this happen?

I am a renter, who pays for bed bug removal?
I moved into an apt 2 years ago. I bought new furniture after I moved in and about 6 months later my kids started being eaten alive from bed bugs…I treated for a week and still have them. My landlord refuses to pay for treatment saying I brought them in. I showed him all my receipts from the furniture and mattresses and still refuses to treat. I am at my witts end and need to know who is responsible for the treatment?

The bed bug exterminator told us it would be $1300 to remove them??!?
Ok so we live in a four bedroom house and in each of the rooms we have found two bed bugs and 5 in one of the bedrooms. We called an exterminator and he said it would cost $1300 for him to do the removal. I feel like he tried to scam us though because we aren’t like infested bad we just found a couple of bed bugs in each of the bedrooms. I don’t know, is this a reasonable price???? I thought it would cost no more than $250.
Oh and he said he would use steam, sprays, and dusting

Commercial Bed Bug Spray safety?
Even tho it is required by law, my landlord refuses to hire a professional to exterminate bed bugs. The company claims they have sent their maintenance crew to train for bed bug removal. They also claim Orkin has provided them with commercial bed bug spray that they are using in our apartments. Normally, the maintenance comes in and sprays around for 2 minutes then leaves. Since my nieghbor and I have recently complained to them about their negligence they decided to soak everything in my apartment today with this spray. They stayed in my apartment for exactly 30 minutes today spraying everything. They have given the tenants memos that state – “The 4 products used are commercial grade, but they are non toxic to humans and animals.” However, when the maintenance comes to spray they always wear gloves and face masks. When they were spraying I couldnt help but cough as I could feel it in the back of my throat. My daughter also started coughing. When the guys left I could hear them coughing in the hallway. It has been about 4 hours and my apartment still smells horrible and I now have a huge headache and feel lightheaded.
I just emailed them for the MSDS (material safety data sheet). I have a feeling they will fail to provide it. Does anyone have any idea what it is they could be spraying and if it is possible to spray too much even tho its “non toxic?” I am fed up with these people.
