Tips to Buy a Bed Bug Mattress Cover

Author: David Scott

Getting bed bug bites can be a really bad experience. It can happen in just about any household no matter how good the cleanliness might be. It does not really happen in places which are not kept clean but could get carried to your spotlessly clean home through your luggage or on your clothes when you visited some place like a cinema house. If you want to have a good night’s sleep away from the bed bugs which bite you and make you scratch and itch, you can use a bed bug mattress cover or a dust mite cover to keep you safe.

There are plenty of ways in which you can exterminate bed bugs. The bed bug bites can be really painful and those who have experienced them will know how it is. Using a bed bug mattress cover is one of the most effective methods to prevent the bed bugs from coming in touch with your skin. The dust mite cover too will serve the same purpose and you can sleep in peace knowing fully well that you will be protected from the nasty biting bed bugs.

Bed bugs are a kind of parasites which nest in groups and feast on the blood of their hosts. They are very cunning little creatures; after feeding for a while they go back to their hiding place making it extremely difficult for you to find them. If you have never seen bed bugs you might ask “what do bed bugs look like”? Bed bugs are wingless parasites which have a round body and are flat in shape. They are basically brownish in color but after sucking blood from their hosts they turn dark red and sometimes even orange. But if you invest in a bed bug mattress cover you can be safe from these pests. The dust mite cover too will be useful to people for this purpose as well as for those who are allergic to dust mites.

The bed bug, although very small has a great appetite and can drink blood up to three times its own weight. It lays about five eggs every day about the size of a salt grain and which can last for as long as a year. A bed bugs infestation is normally found in the mattresses. So if you buy a bed bug mattress cover you can deal with the problem. The material used for this as well as the dust mite cover is woven so closely that the bed bugs are unable to find a place to hide in. If there are bugs already trapped in your mattress then these covers will seal them within where they will perish as there is no way out for them.

There is many a kind of bed bug mattress cover or dust mite cover available in the market today. You get ones with zippers and you also get pillow coves to keep you safe from these little vampires. There is many a treatment for bed bugs or you can use bed bug spray for killing bed bugs.

Try a medical supply store, the carry plastic mattress covers for ambulatory patients. That should make it hard for the little critters to get out of the mattress.

Yes. These pests can find their way into, and out of, just about everything. I wouldn’t recommend vinyl. Vinyl break down into formaldehyde, which as toxic, and a known human carcinogen (causes cancer). Look into getting one of those latex memory foam mattresses, they’re bed bug and dust mite proof and hypoallergenic (except for latex allergy sufferers).

Yes. Use a mattress cover. They can not survive enclosed in a mattress cover.

Can dust mite or bed bug crawl out of mattress covered with vinyl bed casing?
I’m not sure if my older bed has bed bugs or not, I wonder if I cover the bed with vinyl case would prevent them to come out?
If vinyl is not good, any recommendation?

I just recently realized that I have bed bugs – How do I dispose of the mattress and box spring safely?
Disposable mattress bed bug bags (covers) can cost anywhere from $30 to $60 each here in Canada (just for a Twin bed). Any alternatives? I’m in an apartment building.

Steps to take after Bed Bug Extermination?
I recently had bed bugs. I had 2 exterminators come out. Both told me they were in my box spring. I had the whole house exterminated as a precaution. The exterminator told me it wasn’t necessary to throw out the mattress. I moved everything except the furniture out of the room, washed all the fabrics in hot water, and still have everything in plastic bags two weeks later. I haven’t slept in the bed as the exterminator told me to wait a week before sleeping in it and that after 14 days the treatment should be 100% effective.

I’m throwing out the box spring. Is it necessary for me to also get the bed bug mattress cover?
I have a warranty for the extermination. Should I have him to come out and spray again?

I may be overreacting, but I just don’t want a larger problem on my hands. I have children and pets. I don’t want either to become a carrier or a meal for the little buggers.

If i have an anti-bed bug mattress cover, and i am getting bites.?
    What could the bites be?
i put the cover on the mattress the second i got the bed. i have had a exterminator come before. And i got new pillows and covers for the pillows. Understand these are covers that completely cover the bed completely.
