Our Laws Against Cyber-Bullying – Our Legislature Needs to Wake Up!

By NBPuser On August 23, 2010 Under Parenting

The facts are black and white and cannot be denied. Cyber-Bullying is one of the most serious safety issues for our children on the internet. Yet laws against Cyber-Bullying are not in place to afford our children the protection they deserve and need.

On a website I dedicated to the topic of Cyber-Bullying Suicides - Cyber Bullycide Victims I have given statistics and examples giving information on just how important this issue of child safety is.

As of January 27, 2010 I found that only 9 states offered any form of legislation addressing the problem and no federal action has been taken that I could find evidence of. Those statutes were not, in my opinion, adequate. Where are the laws against Cyberbullying in the remaining 41 states? Why isn't our Government addressing this issue?

How many kids have to be victimized before they take action?

How many kids need to commit suicide as the result of Cyber-Bullying for our government to realize action needs to be taken? A child will commit Bullycide once every half hour! Enough already!

The legislative and judicial branches of our federal government need to take notice. They need to offer some form of protection for our children against the Cyber-Bully. Our state governments need to also take heed of this problem.

There are many regulations set up by the FCC on internet usage and practices. Where are they when it comes to the protection of our children on the internet?

The majority of the Cyber-Bullying takes place in the chat rooms and forums on the internet that are designed to attract our children. Therefore it is not surprising that internet Bullies and sexual predators frequent these sites as well.

Any chat room or forum that promotes their services to our children as a place to hang out needs to be forced to:

*Provide only public rooms or forums for use; no private chat rooms!

*Disable Private Messaging.

*Make private all profile information

*Prohibit the uploading or exchanging of photos.

*Prohibit the exchange of emails between users.

*Allow users to block messages from any user for any reason.

*Prohibit the use of all web cams.

*Provide 24 hour moderation of the forums and chat rooms.

The majority of these sites make very nice profits from advertisers on their sites.

I think the least they can do is to provide the safety measures I have listed above to protect the children they are trying to attract to their domain.

Now if a site used the suggestions listed above then my child would be much safer when visiting their site. As a parent I would direct my kids to those sites over those sites who do not care to show concern over my child's safety.

We need to send a letter to our Government Officials.

We must provide Internet Safety for Teenagers and Children !
