What are signs of a bed bug infestation?

Author: Nadeeka Johnson

During the day, bedbugs will usually hide close to or in the cracks of the bed or base boards. These hiding places are usually marked by dark spots of excrement, eggs, egg shells, molted skin and the bugs. These spots are often a sure sign of a bed bug infestation.

The Bed Bug is a night feeding insect and it likes to feast on our blood; it also likes to stay out of sight and this is why it frequents our beds and furnishings.

While the Bed Bug does not nest like many other insects, it does fall to suitable places, hence many will hide together in the crevasses of a mattress, the inside of covers and linings and many dark and secure places.

Bed Bugs are often brought into the home by people who have been elsewhere and have usually slept on a number of varied and frequently used beds.

A Bed Bug infestation is not always a case of dodgy hygiene, however, as any number of hotels and guest houses have also been the source of infestations.

Bed Bug infestations come about very quickly; with one female insect laying around five eggs each day it is simple to see how rapidly the colony can grow.

To eradicate Bed Bugs you also need to dispose of of the affected mattress and any other things that may be infested with the creatures.

As bed bugs are very small and almost impossible to find, eradicating all the eggs and creatures with off the shelf treatments may not be entirely successful.

NO NO NO NO DO NOT buy a bed bug spray!!!
It is not going to work unless you spray directly on bed bugs.

Wash all your bedding items with HOT HOT water.

Use a steam cleaner on the mattress to kill live bed bugs.

Apply Bed Bug Powder from the site below.

Put the sheet back on the mattress.

We had the same issue as you are having. We tried sprays, foggers, bombs, and even professional exterminators.
And none of them worked, but bed bug came back after a few weeks.

But after using the powder, we don’t seem to get bitten at all. The powder is natural powder and is safe to humans and pets.

The price is also reasonable, and it is easy to use.

    Good luck.

We all spend a lot of time in bed and experts say that between 2 million and 10 million dust mites live in your mattress and that another 2 million live in your pillow.

We use special soft cotton/polyester fabric mattress and pillow covers to provide an effective barrier against dust and dust mites.

Hope this helps…see links below for reference. Best of Luck!

See your doctor just incase, but for bed bug bites try benadryl – either the pills or even the creams/sprays to take the itch away. And maybe hydrocortisone to reduce the redness.

What natural remedy works best on bed bug bites?
With the dramatic return of bed bugs to our chemical-sodden society, it would be great to know what natural, non-artificial remedies work best to combat the itching associated with bed bug bites. I have heard that aloe vera is of some use, but is not as effective against bed bug bites as it is on mosquito and other bites – perhaps because the former is an allergic reaction that lasts much longer than simple mosquito and black fly bites do. Any answers would be greatly appreciated: one has to be prepared for the worst, after all :=).
