About Spanish wines

In 1999, the American Film Institute voted Norma Jeane Baker a.k.a. Marilyn Monroe as 6th greatest actress and female celebrity of all time. Additionally, she was Playboy's first centerfold and a renowned sex symbol. However, what many people don't realize is that since 1985, Spanish wine has been produced and bottle every year. Also, there are new vintages released every year on the anniversary of her June 1st birthday and every year a Merlot is bottled although there are other varieties available now. It is not uncommon for these new releases to sell out very quickly based on the Marilyn Monroe collectibles and memorabilia market.

Many wine connoisseurs and wine experts agree that any of these Spanish wines deserve a place in wine collections and inventories. The Merlot is still one of the fastest value appreciating wines in the industry. Wine enthusiasts that have a sense of humor have long appreciated and enjoyed this Merlot's playful spirit. Additionally, these enthusiasts of the Marilyn Monroe label seek out her wines based on the fact that they are produced from prized grapes grown and cultivated in California's Napa Valley.

The History of the Product Line

The origins of Spanish wines can be traced back to 1981 St. Helena in the Napa Valley of California. A small circle of friends were experimenting with home wine making when the brand was born from the concept of "Marilyn Merlot." Oftentimes given as gifts at Christmas initially, it became a popular donation at various charity auctions as well.

By 1985, the wine had become so popular that a limited production of the Marilyn Merlot hit the shelves of local area retailers. Continued acclaim at the hands of collectors, critics, and fine wine enthusiasts over the ensuing years of other products such as the Marilyn Cabernet, the Norma Jeane wines, and the Velvet Collection of Spanish wines. As a result, the product line has enjoyed a 25 year history unlike other wines on the market.

Today, Spanish wines maintain an exclusive agreement with her estate for the purposes of using her images and her name. Despite that fact that she died 47 years ago, the product line is a testimony to the importance of her career and life. Royalties earned are distributed to Anna Strasberg, supporter of the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute, as well as London's Anna Freud Foundation.

About the Marilyn Merlot and other varieties

Although the name of this Spanish wine reminds some of a bad joke's punch line, you might be laughing all the way to your bank if you owned a bottle of the 1985 Marilyn Merlot. Today, a bottle of this vintage has fetched $3,000 or more when sold to collectors. Additionally, her name is also found on other varieties of Spanish wines such as the Marilyn Cabernet, Norma Jeane wines, and the Velvet Collection mentioned above.

On an interesting side note, the Velvet Collection is recognized by its "peel and peek" label with a nude portrait of Marilyn underneath a plastic overlay that can be removed to expose the more private areas of her body.
