Most people are starting their own home based business because it gives them more time for themselves and their families. However, this flexibility of time comes with a great challenge as well. You have to be ready to do things on your own. Therefore, time management is highly needed. It can be difficult to finish a task and start another if you don't know how to balance your time. Below are tip on how you can manage your time more effectively:

Do the most difficult tasks first. At the start of your day, do first the tasks that require your full energy and attention. Finish off your most demanding tasks in the morning, while you're still at your best. At the end of the day, you'll be left with simpler tasks that do not need much concentration.

Identify and prioritize your tasks. You may divide your duties into three: your duties to your family, to your business and to yourself. Now list down all the tasks that you need to do according to these three categories. Take note of the things that you need to accomplish.

Next, take a look at your list and carefully examine the degree of importance of each task. Which tasks should be done on a daily basis? Which ones can be done weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly? You can easily define your priorities more clearly by identifying your duties first. After identifying your tasks, get ready to set your priorities.

Of course, the most important duties should come first in your list. Balancing your time between work and family can be a big challenge. However, knowing your priorities would help you set things straight and would keep you in the right direction.

Create a definite schedule. Creating a schedule means setting a specific time frame for each of your daily activities. Be realistic in dividing the hours in between each task. For instance, can you really finish all the household chores that you set to do in the morning in just an hour? Give yourself a few extra minutes to finish up or take a short rest before switching from one task to the next. Don't forget to schedule "breaks" when you can relax and re-energize. Again, be sensible. Don't try to fill your day-to-day schedule with too many activities that catching up becomes too difficult for you.

Be strict in following your schedule. This is why creating a realistic schedule is a must. If you can't follow your own schedule, the rest of your activities would be affected. Do your best to fight procrastination. Yes, it would take a lot of self-discipline and motivation to strictly follow a routine but in the end, it's definite worth the sacrifice.

Practice proper multitasking. Some are very simple while other tasks require full concentration. For example, you can do editing or writing articles while enjoying a cup of coffee at the same time. If you need to meet a new client, perhaps you can think of other errands that you need do while you're outside your home office. Organizing your duties and setting a schedule enables you to do multitasking effectively.
