Affiliate marketing is one of the best ways to get started in online work.  Many people never venture beyond it because it’s so profitable and requires less work than many other online ventures.  To get you started on the right track, here are some affiliate marketing tips.

First, you should choose a product that you’re willing to stand behind.  One major mistake that many new marketers make is that they’ll just affiliate with any product or service.  This can lead them into having a bad reputation for having associated with a bad, or even fraudulent, product or service.

Secondly, you should learn how to design your website to SEO standards and/or have a good working knowledge of pay per click advertising.  No one is going to follow your links if they can’t find them.  Even worse, if you’re using pay per click or Adwords, you may lose money if people follow your links but don’t buy the product.

Your affiliate pages should be easy to read and user friendly.  No bells and whistles like animated backgrounds or theme music should be in them.  A video and image files are okay and may enhance the visitors’ experience on your page.  Just don’t overload them with irrelevant stuff.

Above all, don’t overload your page with affiliate links.  You can have 2 or 3 links on your page, but make sure that they’re all relevant to each other.  If you want to affiliate with diverse products, it’s in your best interest to create a different page for each category.

Too many irrelevant affiliate links will confuse your visitors, especially if it’s nothing but a page of huge, colorful, flashing buttons.  They might sit there and gawk for a while, but your chances of them clicking on a link have seriously diminished.
