Wine Making As A Hobby Satisfying Rewarding

My name is John Fleming and my first hobby started when I was in my late teens following my

father in making home brew.I had to compete with my mother for use of the copper.The brew consisted of hops,malt,sugar, barley and water.After boiling it was transfered to a large wooden barrel.The yeast was then added and left to work out until ready for bottling.It was all pretty hit and miss because 60 years ago we didn't have the equipment that is available today.

Sixty years on I am still making my own beer, but because of the large choise of equipment and product, the end result is much more consistant. A year ago I decided to try making wine. I was particuarly interested to try Kiwi Fruit. I started by going to the internet to find recipes.The internet has such a wealth of knowledge [and I will mention more about that later] that I was not surprised at the large selection available. The two that I chose were Kiwi Fruit and carrot. The carrot recipe described it as carrot whisky and had been very popular over the years. Carrots are cheap and the only other ingredients were raisins,sugar,wheat, lemon and yeast so the cost was minimal. After boiling the carrots they were strained, and into the liquid added the remaining ingredients. The yeast was stired in and then left for 10 days.I then siphoned the liquid into large glass jars and left to settle for about 2 weeks. It was then bottled and left for 12 months or even more.

After 9 months I opened a few bottles to celabrate my birthday with my guests. The overall opinion was that it is a very good desert wine.I was pleasd and keen to try it again in 4-5 months time to see the difference.

The Kiwi Fruit wine was a disaster and I think it was because I used the wrong yeast. It should have been wine yeast.Better luck next time.

A Hobby is a great way to relax and forget the troubles of the day, and also very satisfying when you see the end result. The satisfaction spurs you on to go to the next level.

I mentioned the wealth of information available from the internet. Because I am retired I have had time to explore the internet a lot more and recently found and joined a very lucrative internet marketing business.I first thought of this as another hobby but soon found out how serious and rewarding it can be if you are prepared to be tutored to be an enterpreneur in what is a very fast growing industry--INTERNET MARKETING.
